Google is adding impressive new capabilities to its AI world-building tool, Project Genie. Now, it can use images from Google Street View to create AI-powered versions of real-world locations, letting users explore these digitally recreated places – or, more accurately, AI versions of them – as if they were actually there.
I was reading Digital Trends, and they’re talking about this amazing thing Google is working on called Project Genie! Apparently, it’s a super-smart AI that can build entire digital worlds for you to wander around in. The really cool part? It starts with real-world images from Google Street View and then uses AI to turn them into these fully interactive, 3D spaces. Imagine exploring places from your couch – it sounds incredible!
With Project Genie, users can now pick spots on a US map and turn them into unique, AI-powered worlds. Google’s taking a creative approach – imagine the Golden Gate Bridge becoming an underwater adventure filled with sea creatures, or other locations being reimagined as a nostalgic, black-and-white scene from the 1920s, complete with classic cars and saloons.
So, you’ll be able to make your own character, and customize how they look with skins – think comic book heroes, animals, even goofy claymation monsters! Honestly, it’s getting close to being a game in itself. But the tech is still new and experimental, so it’s not flawless. We still need to keep a critical eye on it and make sure it doesn’t step on artists’ toes – remember what happened with Crimson Desert? It’s cool stuff, but needs some refinement.
Currently, Project Genie’s AI can only create digital versions of certain places in the US, so you can’t explore a place like Gold Reef City virtually just yet. Whether Google expands this feature globally remains to be seen. However, they might face legal issues if they recreate private or restricted locations on computers.
