Okay, so this is pretty huge for us movie and TV fans in India! HBO Max just landed on JioCinema, which is awesome. Basically, it means we now have access to everything HBO, all those great Max Originals, plus movies and shows from Warner Bros. and DC – all in one place. It’s the first time HBO Max has done this in India, so I’m really excited to finally be able to stream all that content!
The streaming market in India is changing with the launch of HBO Max. Previously, JioHotstar had an agreement to show HBO content. HBO Max is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, a major global entertainment company, and JioHotstar is a popular streaming service in India, owned by JioStar India Private Limited (previously known as Star India Private Limited).
HBO Max To Be Offered As An Add-On To JioHotstar India
This agreement means JioHotstar, which is supported by Disney, will be the only place in India to stream content from HBO Max. It’s the first time HBO Max will be available as a dedicated section within another platform in this way.
JioStar’s CEO of Entertainment, Kevin Vaz, announced a significant step forward for premium entertainment in India with the addition of HBO Max to JioHotstar. He explained that this partnership creates a single platform for top-tier international shows and movies, setting a new standard for quality and making it easier than ever for audiences across the country to enjoy a wider range of immersive entertainment.
James Gibbons, President of Warner Bros. Discovery for Asia Pacific, highlighted India as a rapidly growing market for streaming services. He emphasized that JioHotstar is an ideal partner due to its large reach and strong understanding of Indian viewers. The exclusive launch of HBO Max on JioHotstar represents a continuation of their successful partnership, allowing them to reach more fans and strengthen their connection with audiences throughout India.
HBO Max is home to hugely popular shows like the epic fantasy series Game of Thrones and its spin-off, House of the Dragon. An additional series set in that world, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is also on the way. Other major titles available on the platform include Euphoria, The Last of Us, His Dark Materials, The Pitt, Dune: Prophecy, and Sex and the City, to name just a few.
Fans can look forward to the next season of House of the Dragon, and a new eight-part series based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone which will premiere this Christmas.
Indian JioHotstar subscribers will now be able to watch hit Warner Bros. Television shows like Friends, The Big Bang Theory, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, and The Flash. They’ll also have access to popular Warner Bros. movies, including the entire Harry Potter series and The Lord of the Rings films, among many others.
HBO Max will be available as an extra package through JioHotstar, starting at ₹49 (about 5 cents) per month. It will be added to JioHotstar’s current selection of shows and movies, both international and Indian.
