Navigating Pywel
Okay, so Crimson Desert is HUGE and doesn’t really tell you anything when you start. I was totally lost in Pywel at first! Luckily, there’s this interactive map, and it’s packed with info. Let me quickly break down the most useful stuff on it so you don’t waste time wandering around like I did.
Belltowers
In Crimson Desert, finding and ringing belltowers is a quick way to explore the world. Each belltower you activate lifts the fog of war, showing you more of the map and highlighting important locations. When you begin playing, it’s a good strategy to prioritize finding these belltowers to reveal as much of the game world as you can.
Abyss Nexus
You can quickly travel around the world using the Abyss Nexus, which are circular platforms hidden throughout the game. Most of these platforms are located in Pywel and appear on your map as “Mysterious Energy.” Simply stand on a platform for a few seconds to activate it, and then you can instantly travel to that location whenever you like.
You can find Abyss Nexus plates within the Abyss, which is a collection of floating islands you’ll return to several times throughout the game.
You can switch to the Abyss map view by pressing the L3 button on your controller or scrolling with the mouse wheel on a keyboard and mouse.
Abyss Artifacts
Throughout the world of Pywel, you’ll find Abyss Artifacts – small, cube-shaped items that let you improve your character. Use them to boost stats, learn new skills, or make your best equipment even better. Collecting as many as you can is highly recommended!
There are three ways of obtaining Abyss Artifacts:
- Complete quests and defeat enemies.
- Find Sealed Abyss Artifacts and complete their respective challenge.
- Activate an Abyss Cresset.
Important Vendors
Crimson Desert features more than a dozen different kinds of vendors. While their names generally explain what they sell or do, some merchants are surprisingly useful.
- Blacksmith: Vendors that can upgrade your weapons, armor, and jewelry.
- Confessional: Allows you to pay off criminal bounties.
- Stable: Offers equipment upgrades for your mount.
- Witch: Craft and socket Abyss Cores into your gear. Abyss Cores offer powerful passive traits to your character.
- Witches become accessible from Chapter 5 onward.
Points of Interest
Okay, so Pywel isn’t just fields and old buildings! As I’ve been playing Crimson Desert, I’ve found tons of different places to explore – it’s way more varied than I expected!
- Sanctum: A difficult puzzle you can complete for rewards. Most sanctums are locked behind story progression.
- Spire: A platforming, puzzle, and/or boss challenge. Some are tied to the main story, but you’ll have to find most on your own.
- Outpost: Territory held by a particular faction.
- On our interactive map, blue outposts are friendly; red outposts are enemy territory you must capture.
