How to Farm Thick Hide in Crimson Desert

As a Crimson Desert player, I’ve learned you can get Thick Hide by hunting big animals! Basically, if you take down rhinoceroses, elephants, or bears roaming around in the open world and skin them, that’s where you’ll find it.

Players can buy Thick Hides from merchants at the Tannery, but they’re only available in limited quantities and the shops don’t restock very quickly.

How to Get Thick Hides in Crimson Desert

As mentioned before, there are only two ways to get Thick Hides in Crimson Desert.

  • Hunt and Skin Giant Mammals
  • Buy from Tannery

Giant Mammals

As a crafting enthusiast, I’ve learned you get Thick Hides by hunting and skinning rhinos, elephants, and bears. If you’re looking for rhinos and elephants, head to the northeast corner of the map, specifically the Crimson Desert. Bears, though, are a bit more spread out – you can find them in the forests of Hernand and the areas around there.

Rhinos and elephants, along with dropping Thick Hide, also yield Ivory when they are skinned – another useful item for crafting.

Buy from Tannery

You can buy Thick Hides at Tanneries for just 20 Copper coins each. They usually have 3 in stock, and the merchants refill their supply every 5 game days (which takes about 10 real-time hours).

Not all tanneries sell Thick Hides. You can find them at Bran’s Hernand Tannery, but the Delesyia Tannery doesn’t carry them.

Best Thick Hide Farming Methods in Crimson Desert

Thick Hide Farming Method #1

You can find the best place to farm Thick Hides in the Crimson Desert, close to the Abyss Nexus. Look on the map just above the letter “C” in “Crimson” – that’s where you’ll want to go. Here’s how it works…

Head to the location shown on the map above and unlock the Abyss Nexus.

  1. Look southeast, and you’ll spot a small herd of rhinos standing in an open field.
  2. Hunt and skin these rhinoceros to get Thick Hides.

Open the map and go to the “Factions” tab.

  3. Select any visible faction nearby and double-click LMB (PC) or press Triangle/Y (Controller) to open its 3D render.
  4. Exit out of the map menu and return to the game.

Look to the clearing again, and you’ll see that there is a new herd of rhinos in the spot you just cleared.

  5. Kill the rhinos and skin them once again to get more Thick Hides.
  6. Repeat this process as many times as required to get the desired amount of Thick Hides.

To use this method, you need to turn on the “View 3D Stronghold Details on the Map” setting. You can find this option in the Language and Gameplay section of the game’s Options menu.

While quickly traveling to the Abyss Nexus will respawn rhinos, it takes more time than simply checking the map to do so.

Okay, so I was having trouble getting the rhinos to show up, and it turns out I was literally standing where they were supposed to spawn! If that happens to you, just move a little bit to the side and they should pop up. It totally fixed it for me.

Thick Hide Farming Method #2

If you find the Crimson Desert too far to travel on foot, you can use a similar method to hunt and skin bears in Hernand instead. Here’s how it works:

Head to the location shown in the map above, southeast of Unicorn Cliff, to reach an Abyss Nexus overlooking a large open clearing.

  1. Look around the clearing, and you’ll spot a lone bear standing in a field of white flowers.
  2. Kill the bear and skin it to get Thick Hides.

Open the map and go to the “Factions” tab.

  3. Select any visible faction nearby and double-click LMB (PC) or press Triangle/Y (Controller) to open its 3D render.
  4. Exit out of the map menu and return to the game.

  5. The bear will now have respawned, allowing you to kill and skin it again to get more Thick Hides.
  6. Repeat this process as many times as required to get the desired amount of Thick Hides.

The Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger lets you get 10% more hides when you skin animals. Here’s how to find it.
