The Megaphone was introduced to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in a January 2026 update. It lets you call your villagers and other characters using your microphone, making it easier to find them around your island.
While it sounds simple, getting the Megaphone to recognize your voice can be tricky, regardless of how you speak. To help you out, we’ve covered everything you need to know about the Megaphone in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, including how to obtain it and how to use it. We’ve also included useful tips and settings adjustments to improve its performance and make it more likely to work.
How to Get the Megaphone in ACNH
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can buy a Megaphone for 3,500 bells. Just head to the green cabinet inside your Nook’s Cranny shop. However, please note that this item is only available if you’re playing the Switch 2 Edition of the game.
You won’t need to buy a brand new game to get the Megaphone and other Switch 2 Edition content! If you already have a Switch 2 and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can simply purchase the upgrade pack from the Nintendo eShop for a much lower price.
How to Use the Megaphone in ACNH
In theory, it’s easy to use the Megaphone in ACNH:
- Equip the Megaphone from your inventory, or from the “Favorites” wheel
- Hold down the “A” button
- Say the name of the villager/special character you want to find
- Follow the direction of the character’s speech bubble to locate them
The Megaphone can be surprisingly difficult to use effectively. It often takes several tries for the game to recognize who you’re trying to contact, regardless of your accent. Sometimes, it just won’t understand, and you’ll have to give up.
We discovered that disabling the “Microphone Noise Suppression” setting in the Switch 2’s Audio settings significantly improved voice recognition in the game.
After pressing the ‘A’ button, immediately say the name of the villager you’re looking for. We’ve discovered this method is much more reliable than waiting for your character to raise the Megaphone first.
The Megaphone helps you find villagers and special characters—like Kapp’n and Resetti—who are outside. You can even use it to wake up Gulliver when he’s asleep on the beach! Just remember it doesn’t work inside buildings or on certain islands like Harv’s Island.
