To help your Paralives achieve their dreams in the Paralives game, they’ll need to develop different skills. Whether you want them to become a successful programmer or simply follow their artistic passions, each career path requires skill improvement to advance. This guide will explain everything you need to know about leveling up skills in Paralives, so you’ll understand exactly what to do for each one.

Leveling Up Skills in Paralives

In Paralives, you can improve your skills by reading books on that skill or related subjects, using a computer to research, or simply practicing the hobby associated with it.

Music, Food, Fitness, Technology, Art, Repair, and Science are considered core skill areas. Improving any skill within these areas will also boost the core skill itself. For instance, studying Astronomy will also improve your overall Science skill. I’ve highlighted these core skills in the table to make them easy to identify.

Boosting a core skill also speeds up learning related skills. For instance, if you get better at Food gathering, you’ll level up your Cooking skill much more quickly when you prepare meals.

Skill Name How to Improve It
Music Learn about it on the computer, read ‘Music’ books about it, or play the Guitar, Piano, or Triangle.
Guitar Play songs on the guitar or practice playing it. By improving your Music skill, you’ll also increase the rate at which you improve this skill.
Piano Play songs on the piano or practice playing it. By improving your Music skill, you’ll also increase the rate at which you improve this skill.
Triangle Play songs on the triangle. By improving your Music skill, you’ll also increase the rate at which you improve this skill.
Food Learn about it on the computer, read ‘Food’ books, and cook meals.
Cooking Learn about it on the computer, or cook food.
Fitness Learn about it on the computer or read ‘Fitness’ books, and go to the gym or dance.
Exercise Do floor exercises, use exercise machines, or have your Paras run or jog.
Dance Dance! This can be done anywhere by clicking somewhere in the world and selecting the ‘Dance Here’ option.
Technology Learn about it on the computer or read ‘Technology’ books.
Programming Select a computer and choose the ‘Practice…’ and then ‘Programming’ option.
Graphic Design Select a computer and choose the ‘Practice…’ and then ‘Graphic design’ option.
Art Learn about it on the computer or read ‘Art’ books. You’ll also improve this by painting on an easel which you can buy for your home.
Painting Have your Para paint on an easel which can be purchased from the start of the game for your home.
Repair Learn about it on the computer or read ‘Repair’ books. You’ll also improve this by repairing items such as broken benches around town, or a kitchen appliance at home like your fridge.
Science Learn about it on the computer or read ‘Science’ books. Improving your Surgery, Biology, or Astronomy skills will also improve your Science skill.
Surgery Learn about it on the computer.
Biology Learn about it on the computer.
Astronomy Learn about it on the computer.

The game suggests you can raise your Surgery, Biology, and Astronomy skills by studying them on the computer. However, I haven’t been able to find a way to do this yet. Currently, choosing to learn ‘Science’ only improves your general knowledge, and doesn’t affect these more specific skills. Likewise, using a telescope only boosts your Science skill, not Astronomy. This could be a temporary issue with the early access version of the game that will be fixed soon.

How to Level Up Skills Faster

You can learn skills faster by improving the underlying knowledge area. For instance, to boost your character’s ‘Cooking’ skill, focus on increasing their ‘Food’ knowledge. This means reading books about food, researching it online, or simply practicing cooking frequently.

The higher your Knowledge Skill level, the faster you’ll level up skills that fall underneath it.

How quickly a Para learns a skill also depends on their current mood and natural abilities. If they’re feeling good, have a knack for that particular skill, or are strong in other areas, they’ll pick it up faster. But if they’re tired, upset, or hungry, their learning will likely slow down, or they might not improve at all.

What Is the Max Skill Level in Paralives?

Right now, you can improve each skill to level 20. However, this is just for the early access version, and we might increase that limit in a future update, either before or when the full game (version 1.0) comes out. We’ll keep you updated here as soon as we know more.
