The Collector Leviathan is easily the scariest creature in Subnautica 2. I remember being ambushed by this huge squid on my first trip to the Alien Ruins – it attacked so fast, I didn’t even have time to react! However, you’ll eventually need to face it, and some players even actively hunt it down. So, here’s a guide on where to find the Collector Squid Leviathan in Subnautica 2.

Giant Squid Collector Leviathan Location Overview – Subnautica 2
- The Collector Leviathan is a massive Giant Squid that stalks the trench beyond the high-temp waters east of the Lifepod.
- Use the Tadpole Pens signal as a guide to reach the correct area. It is located about 700 meters east of the Lifepod. The building where the Tadpole Pens investigation took place overlooks the trench. Our first encounter occurred when we first visited this location.
- The Tadpole provides some protection, but the goal here should be evasion and escape. If the Collector Leviathan gets ahold of the Tadpole, it can destroy it with very little effort. If it gets ahold of you while outside a vehicle, it is certain death.
- The water near the Collector Leviathan is extremely hot, so you’ll need to unlock the Heat Tolerance Adaptation at the blighted Angel Comb.
You’ll need to be very fast to escape the Collector Leviathan, so I strongly suggest getting the Tadpole first before trying to find the Giant Squid that leads to it.
Where to Find the Collector Leviathan in Subnautica 2
Head to Warmer Waters:
You can find the Collector Leviathan in the Graveyard, a warm area heated by underwater vents. This is also where Salt and Sulfur are plentiful.
Later in the game, you’ll get a task from NOA that sends you to this location. Once you receive the alert to investigate the Tadpole Pens, you’ll know it’s time to travel east.
- Before you make the trip, you’ll want to unlock and craft the Tadpole vehicle.
Investigate the Tadpole Pens:
If you’ve started the mission but haven’t gone there yet, the Tadpole Pens are roughly 700 meters east of your Lifepod. Check the signal, and you’ll see you can head almost straight east to reach them. If you have a Tadpole, it shouldn’t be a long trip.
Traveling eastward, the water will start to look orange and murky. A temperature reading will also appear on screen, warning you of the increasing heat. You’ll need the Heat Tolerance Adaptation to proceed safely in this area.
As you get closer to the Tadpole Pens, you’ll be about 150 meters underwater. If you don’t have a Tadpole, you’ll quickly realize why they’re so useful. Without a rebreather, your oxygen starts to deplete faster once you go below 100 meters, meaning you’ll use up your supply much quicker.
How to Evade and Escape the Collection Leviathan Giant Squid in Subnautica 2
Cross on the Sea Floor:
After you arrive at the Tadpole Pens, your next objective is to cross the large gap and get to the Alien Ruins. Although it might be possible to reach the ruins without the Tadpole, it would be a really difficult and pointless struggle.
Before you do anything, check to see if you can spot the Collector Leviathan.
When you get the Tadpole, quickly drive off the cliff, flip the vehicle over, and head down to the very bottom of the ocean floor.
Try to stay as low as possible in the chasm without reaching the dangerous crush depth. The system will warn you if you get too close to the bottom. When ascending, rise gradually and maintain the lowest safe altitude.
Very quickly, you’ll reach the opposite wall. Head up, and you’ll find yourself at the Alien Ruins.
- Q: Can I Kill or Fight the Collector Squid Leviathan in Subnautica 2?
- A: No! You absolutely cannot. It cannot be stopped. Its only goal is to kill you, so your only option is to evade. There doesn’t even appear to be a way to escape once the squid wraps you in its tentacles.
Okay, so I explored this place and honestly, it’s not like the Great Jaw Clam Leviathan where you can find a bunch of loot. There aren’t any hidden treasures or items to collect here. The real reward? Just surviving the journey to the other side! It’s a tough one, but making it through is the treasure, I guess.
