The 9K38 Igla is a shoulder-fired missile launcher available to the Engineer class in Battlefield 6. Players can unlock it in Season 3 by completing a special challenge focused on SMGs and vehicles. While getting the Igla itself is surprisingly simple in BF6, mastering how to use it effectively presents a much bigger challenge.
The “BF6 Igla” challenge needed to unlock the VCR-2 launcher requires players to destroy at least five enemy aircraft with it. However, many are finding this challenge incredibly difficult – and frustrating – due to a bug and the inherent difficulty of taking down planes with infantry weapons.
How to Unlock the Igla in Battlefield 6
To get the 9K38 Igla in BF6, all you need to do is complete the following objectives:
- Get 30 Kills/Assists with SMGs
- Earn 2500 score using a vehicle
You can easily achieve these goals simply by playing the game as you normally would. The quickest way to finish most challenges is to jump into a Casual Breakthrough match and eliminate bots. However, because Casual Breakthrough in Battlefield 6 only features a limited number of maps, you might not always find one with vehicles. Even playing other game modes should allow you to complete the challenge quickly, as long as you’re playing well.
BF6 Igla Challenge Guide
Here’s the tricky part: to get the VCR-2 in Battlefield 6, you have to use the Igla launcher to destroy five enemy planes. It seems straightforward, but there are a few challenges you’ll face.
- While the game says you need to destroy or support in destroying aircraft, assists don’t seem to count for this challenge.
- Destroying empty aircraft doesn’t seem to count either. If your missile hits a helicopter/jet that its pilot recently abandoned, you won’t get any credit.
- Destroying aircraft with MANPADs in BF6 is difficult in general, as any experienced pilot will know how to use flares, take cover, or get below radar range where lock-ons are mostly impossible.
To easily complete the BF6 Igla challenge, play the Conquest mode on either Railway to Golmud or Blackwell Fields. Stick close to your team’s anti-air vehicle or any Engineers working on anti-air defense. I finished the challenge myself on Golmud by positioning near the poppy fields north of the E flag.
To maximize your chances of destroying an aircraft with the Igla missile, remember these helpful tips:
- Your missile can lock onto other targets as long as it’s still in the air. If you fire a shot, and the enemy pilot pops flares, you still have a chance to hit your target as long as you keep your scope on them (provided the missile doesn’t explode to the flares themselves).
- Provide cover for friendly aircraft. Pay attention to dogfights and helicopter battles, then once one of the enemy pilots pops their flares, fire your Igla at them for a guaranteed hit. Keep shooting until your target is destroyed, or until they fly out of range.
- Request for SOFLAM support. Recon players on your team can use or deploy Laser Designator gadgets that can paint enemy vehicles for you. This will allow you to target aircraft that are outside of your usual range.
