A new mod for the game Hytale has completely revamped the fishing system, making it work much like the popular fishing in Stardew Valley. While Hytale previously had a basic fishing feature, this mod significantly expands and improves it.
After more than ten years in development, Hytale was finally released in early access in January 2026. Though Riot Games canceled the project in June 2025, it was bought back and continued by its original creator, Simon Collins-Laflamme, with Hypixel Studios. Its release after such a long and rocky road is remarkable, and the game received a lot of positive feedback upon launch. While still under development, Hytale shows a lot of promise and is definitely a game to watch. Early sales were strong, providing enough funding to support development for the next few years, which is a great sign for the game’s future.
Hytale Mod Adds Stardew Valley-Style Fishing
A Reddit user named Falc0rNe shared a video of a fantastic mod for the game Hytale that makes fishing work just like in Stardew Valley. Instead of the standard fishing method, players now cast a line and actively reel it in when a fish bites. A progress bar appears, and players need to keep the fish within a moving green zone to successfully reel it in. When a fish is caught, the game displays its name, size, and quality. Many commenters were impressed with this more engaging fishing system and asked if Falc0rNe plans to share the mod with everyone. The creator hasn’t responded yet, but hopefully it will be released once it’s complete.

Currently, Hytale includes a fishing system where players set traps in water to catch fish. However, these traps take a long time – sometimes over 40 minutes – to work. While you can catch fish this way, it’s not a very engaging or time-filling activity. Whether this new mod is better depends on what players are looking for in a fishing experience within Hytale.
Even though Hytale has only been available in early access for a little over a month, its modding community is already remarkably active and creative – arguably one of the best around. The game was built with modders in mind, and that’s clear in the quality of early mods. One recent example even added large, MMO-style dungeons! What players are seeing now is just a small taste of what’s possible. As modders become more familiar with the game’s systems, we can expect even more impressive and ambitious mods to be released in the future.
Even though Hytale has been very successful for Hypixel Studios, the developers are continuing to improve it. They’ve already released several updates with new content, and plan to release updates more frequently in the future. The game is currently in excellent shape and is expected to become even better with regular content additions and a thriving community of players creating modifications.
