Because Subnautica 2 focuses on exploring the ocean, being able to swim quickly is essential for getting around and avoiding danger. Luckily, you can improve your swimming speed using upgrades crafted with the Fabricator.
You’ll start by making Basic Fins, but once you reach the next area, you can find blueprints for Improved Fins. These are a faster, more agile upgrade to your existing fins.
Okay, so you absolutely need to unlock the Alien Ruins before you can even get the blueprint for Improved Fins. Don’t worry, it’s not super early – it’s the second area in the game, so just keep playing and progressing until you get there. You’ll unlock it as you go!
How to Get the Improved Fins Blueprints in Subnautica 2
Improved Fins Blueprint Location #1
First, drive your Tadpole vehicle to the abandoned base in the Alien Ruins. You’ll see an entrance hatch with a heavy cable running down the cliff. Follow the cable downwards until you reach a table – that’s where you’ll find the first set of Improved Fins you can scan.
Improved Fins Blueprint Location #2
Head back to the Alien Ruins base, then travel in a direction between southeast and south – specifically, 165 degrees. As you go, you’ll come across a tall cliff with two old, abandoned platforms on the right side.
You’ll find the second Improved Fin on the nearest platform, right in front of a large chest. Scan it, and you’ll only need one more piece to complete the set!
Improved Fins Blueprint Location #3
Stay where you found the second Improved Fins blueprint, then swim down from the cliff edge. If you swim deep enough, you’ll see an open chest containing more gear, including the last Improved Fins blueprint.
While you might find other Improved Fins, you only need three. The ones we’ve shared are the easiest to locate and consistently appear in the same spot.
How to Craft the Improved Fins in Subnautica 2
You can now build Improved Fins using the Fabricator. To get the materials you need, you’ll also require a Processor and a Sonic Resonator.

To craft some of the required materials for Improved Fins, you will need a Processor.
