Japanese Man Who Threatened to Blow Up Nintendo HQ has Been Arrested

In 2024, Nintendo received bomb threats at its Japanese headquarters from a man who sent threatening letters. To ensure the safety of its employees, Nintendo cancelled several live events both in Japan and internationally.

Although the threats didn’t result in any violence and searches of both the man’s home and Nintendo’s headquarters found no explosives, the person who made them has been taken into custody.

Police in Japan have identified the suspect as a 27-year-old man from Hekinan, a city near Kyoto. He has confessed to the crime, and authorities are now working to understand why he did it.

It’s currently unknown why someone threatened to bomb Nintendo Japan’s headquarters, but similar threats in the past often come from overly passionate fans who go too far.

In April 2024, Nintendo dealt with a concerning incident: a 27-year-old man, Kenshin Kazama, was arrested for making 39 threats of violence.

Kazama threatened Nintendo online, stating he would harm everyone who worked on specific video games he disliked. He was angry about the games’ quality and expressed a desire to commit violence because of it.

Although Kazama didn’t specifically mention Splatoon 3, the threats surfaced during the Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals and were connected to the game. This led Nintendo to cancel the festival.

Kazama was given a suspected one-year prison sentence.
