June 1 Will Be a Bad Day For LEGO Fans

The popular 2014 animated film The LEGO Movie is leaving Netflix. It arrived on the streaming service in March and quickly became a hit with both kids and LEGO enthusiasts thanks to its funny, colorful, and surprisingly heartfelt story. Unfortunately, movies often come and go from streaming platforms like Netflix due to licensing deals, and removals are becoming increasingly frequent.

As a big movie fan, I was a little bummed to hear that The LEGO Movie is leaving Netflix soon. It feels like just yesterday it popped up, and now another great family film is going away. Thankfully, The LEGO Movie 2: Second Part is still around for now! But if you haven’t seen the original with Chris Pratt, you’ve got until June 1st to give it another watch before it disappears.

The LEGO Movie Was a Huge Hit in 2014

LEGO Fans Still Love The Animated Film

Directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, The LEGO Movie (2014) tells the story of Emmet Brickowski, an average construction worker who’s accidentally believed to be a legendary hero meant to save the LEGO world. He teams up with characters like Batman and Wyldstyle to stop the evil Lord Business from gluing everything together forever. The movie is known for its fast-paced humor and vibrant animation that convincingly mimics the look and feel of actual LEGOs.

When it was released, The LEGO Movie was a surprisingly big success. It was both critically acclaimed and a huge financial hit, earning over $470 million worldwide on a $60 million budget and becoming one of the year’s biggest animated films. Critics loved it too, giving it a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earning an Academy Award nomination for its popular song, “Everything is Awesome.” More than just a box office success, The LEGO Movie kicked off a major film franchise with sequels, spin-offs, and video games, proving that a movie based on a toy could be truly original, funny, and emotionally engaging.

Even after twelve years, The LEGO Movie is still incredibly popular because it perfectly captured the fun and limitless creativity that made LEGOs so beloved. It wasn’t just a long commercial; the movie celebrated the wild imagination that comes with building LEGO worlds, blending pop culture jokes, silly humor, and a surprisingly touching story, all brought to life by a fantastic voice cast. Stars like Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, and Elizabeth Banks made the movie’s playful and clever writing even better, creating a truly enjoyable experience for both children and adults.

Netflix Subscribers Won’t Be Able to Watch The LEGO Movie For Much Longer

The Film Won’t Be Available On Netflix After May 31

Okay, movie fans, heads up! If you’re like me and love The LEGO Movie, you’ve only got a little while left to watch it on Netflix US. It’s getting pulled on June 1st, which is usually just how things work with streaming rights – Netflix and Warner Bros. have agreements, and licenses expire. I haven’t heard where it’s going next, but Warner Bros. movies often end up on Max, so that’s probably a good place to check later!

While it’s leaving Netflix, you can still enjoy The LEGO Movie by buying or renting it on platforms like AppleTV, Google Play, and Amazon Prime Video. It’s become common for streaming services to remove movies as studios want them exclusively on their own platforms, which means films often move between services. Hopefully, The LEGO Movie will be available on another streaming service soon.
