Get ready to return to Middle-earth! Warhorse Studios, known for the Kingdom Come: Deliverance games, has officially confirmed they’re developing a new open-world RPG based on The Lord of the Rings. After much speculation, fans can now look forward to exploring this beloved world in a brand new game.

To add to that, the Czech developer also announced they’re working on a new adventure game set in the world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, in addition to their current project.

Juggling Bohemia and Middle-earth At The Same Time

The studio recently announced on social media that they’re currently working on two games at the same time: an open-world role-playing game set in Middle-earth, and a new installment in the Kingdom Come series. They said they’d share more details when they’re ready.

Okay, so the announcement was short and sweet, but that image they dropped with the logos? I was checking it out, and it’s actually packed with little details – they’re right there if you look closely!

Warhorse Studios has officially confirmed they’re developing an open-world role-playing game based in the world of Middle-earth, putting an end to speculation.

Calling the game a ‘Middle-earth RPG’ instead of directly linking it to The Lord of the Rings seems intentional. This suggests the developers, Warhorse, might be drawing from the wider world and stories created by J.R.R. Tolkien, rather than just retelling the events of the books or movies.

The new logo is different – it doesn’t include the word “Deliverance” or the number “3.” This suggests the upcoming Kingdom Come project might be a new story or a spin-off, rather than a direct continuation of Henry’s story.

So, that’s the current situation, and the Czech studio says they’ll share more information about both games when they’re ready. However, if I’m being honest, the Lord of the Rings project is much more exciting! Fans haven’t had a truly great Lord of the Rings game in a long time. Recent attempts like Return to Moria and Gollum haven’t lived up to expectations, leaving fans eager for a fresh, high-quality gaming experience in Tolkien’s world.

Warhorse Studios isn’t afraid to take risks, and they’re known for creating incredibly detailed and ambitious game worlds. Many thought it would be impossible to bring the vastness of Middle-earth to life in a truly immersive way – until now. While another game like Kingdom Come would be welcome, an open-world RPG that lets us experience Tolkien’s world through Warhorse’s unique style is what fans have been dreaming of for years, even if they didn’t realize it!
