All games eventually stop being updated or supported, and several will reach that point in May 2026. It’s common for games to be removed from digital stores or have their servers shut down, meaning only players who already own a copy can still play. We’re highlighting the games that will be shutting down their servers soon. If you enjoy games like Rec Room, May is your last chance to play them online, so you might want to give them one final try.

Game developers and publishers will usually keep a popular game going for as long as they can, but very few manage to do so indefinitely. Most of the games scheduled to close in May 2026 struggled to attract a large player base. While not every game was a huge success, it’s still disappointing to see them shut down, particularly online games that will disappear completely when their servers are turned off.

The Cube, Save Us

The Cube, Save Us’s Servers Will Shut Down On May 7, 2026

Though Rec Room thrived for about ten years, The Cube, Save Us barely lasted two months. Launched in early access on March 18th, the game entered a crowded market, even though several popular titles had just been released. Unfortunately, it launched with many problems, discouraging players and causing a rapid decline in its user base. The game reached a peak of 5,177 players on its launch day, but that number fell below 900 by March 26th. Throughout its brief existence, The Cube, Save Us also struggled with a number of other issues.

Games focused on extracting items are risky, and there may not be enough players to support both large and small releases. However, The Cube, Save Us stood out with its close-combat fighting and short, three-minute gameplay sessions. Players who legitimately purchased the game through Steam will receive full refunds.

Hunter Roulette

Hunter Roulette’s Servers Will Shut Down On May 20, 2026

The multiplayer game Hunter Roulette unexpectedly shut down after a relatively short run. It initially attracted over 2,200 players on Steam when it launched, and saw continued interest, averaging over 1,000 players each month from November 2026 to March 2026. While not hugely popular, Hunter Roulette managed to create a dedicated fanbase who seemed to enjoy its unique take on 3-player Russian roulette.

Hello Players, we’re sorry to announce that [Hunter Roulette] will no longer be available. This is due to changes in how we’re developing and running our games.

The notice about the game closing didn’t give many details, but Hunter Roulette will be shutting down in early May. Right now, the online game is practically empty, with almost no one playing. Once it closes, you won’t be able to access the game, and all data will be removed.

Warface: Clutch

Warface: Clutch’s PC Servers Will Shut Down On May 27, 2026

Besides Rec Room, Warface: Clutch is the largest game scheduled to close in May 2026. This free-to-play shooter has been available since 2013, and was even released on consoles like PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. My.Games has been developing the game since 2021; they are a Dutch publisher with a portfolio of other online games.

It was a difficult decision, but we’re ending support for Warface: Clutch. We truly appreciate all the players who have enjoyed the game over the years and are thankful for their support.

While I don’t have firsthand knowledge of its history, it appears a string of bad choices during development, starting in the late 2010s, ultimately led to this shutdown. It wasn’t a surprise, but an expected outcome. The PC version will stop working on May 27th, and the console versions will follow on August 25th.

Ninja Party

Ninja Party’s Servers Will Shut Down On May 31, 2026

Despite launching in 2025 as a multiplayer game, Ninja Party didn’t attract many players on Steam, peaking at only 60 players in its first month. While it performed slightly better on iOS and Android, it wasn’t enough to continue development. The game featured bright, parkour-focused levels and offered both battle royale and team-based gameplay.

Making the decision to stop development on Ninja Party was difficult. We explored several ways to revitalize the game, but unfortunately, none of them provided enough improvement to allow us to continue developing it to the standard we wanted.

Just wanted to let you all know that Ninja Party will be live until the end of May. If you’ve been curious, now’s the time to jump in and give it a shot!

Special Mention: Rec Room

Rec Room Will Spend May Preparing For Its June 1st Shutdown

I’m really sad to hear that Rec Room is going to shut down. They’re planning to officially remove it from stores on June 1, 2026, but May will basically be its last month of operation. I discovered Rec Room through VR, and it quickly became a place where I felt safe connecting with others and making new friends. What was so amazing about it was that players built everything – all the games and experiences were created by the community itself, and it was totally free to play! It’s a shame it wasn’t making enough money, especially since they worked so hard to get it running on almost every device out there.

Even though Rec Room became quite popular, we struggled to turn it into a financially sustainable company. We consistently spent more money than we earned.

Rec Room is beginning to shut down. Account creation, premium memberships, and adding friends are already disabled. Starting May 1st, players won’t be able to join the Partnered Creator program or purchase tokens. Token earnings for creators will stop on May 18th, but they can still redeem any earned tokens throughout the month.
