I was really surprised to learn that Jeremy Slater, who just wrote the new Mortal Kombat II movie, says Star Wars is his dream franchise! He’s apparently talked to Lucasfilm about it, which is awesome, but unfortunately, he isn’t working on anything *Star Warsrelated right now. Still, it’s cool to know he’s a fan like me and has at least had those conversations!
Jeremy Slater, born in 1978, has been a writer for several well-known series and films in recent years. He first gained significant recognition with the 2015 film Fantastic Four, though he’s noted the final version was quite different from his original script. His other projects include the 2017 live-action Death Note movie, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and episodes of the popular shows Umbrella Academy and Moon Knight.
Mortal Kombat II Writer Wants to Work on Star Wars
Jeremy Slater, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter (which includes spoilers for Mortal Kombat II), shared that he’s had meetings with people from Lucasfilm and couldn’t help but show off his Star Wars collection – jokingly referred to as a “museum” by the interviewer. Slater confessed that working on a Star Wars project is his biggest ambition, something he’s been hoping to achieve for a long time and got a little overly excited about during those meetings.
Despite previous discussions with Lucasfilm, Ryan Slater says he isn’t involved in any Star Wars projects at the moment. He explains he wouldn’t want to take on a Star Wars job unless he felt confident he could deliver something great, fearing the disappointment of failing to meet expectations. While he and Lucasfilm haven’t found the perfect project to work on together yet, he remains open to the possibility of collaborating on Star Wars in the future, but it’s not a certainty.
It’s clear the writer is a huge Star Wars fan, saying he’d immediately stop what he’s doing if he got a call about it. He compares this feeling to how he’d react to a call from James Gunn or Peter Safran, the leaders of the DC Universe, as he’s eager to collaborate with them. In the same interview, Jeremy Slater revealed he’s currently revising the script for Mortal Kombat III and developing a new film called Summoner.
