Although its peak popularity has passed, R.E.P.O. remains a beloved game, and its initial impact was significant. Last Pirates: Die Together on Steam is one game that clearly draws inspiration from the scary-but-silly style of R.E.P.O. While it shares a similar charming character design and promises plenty of scares with monsters that chase players, Last Pirates also adds extraction gameplay, making it a unique experience.
The extraction genre – where players venture into challenging missions to collect items and then safely escape – has become increasingly popular. Despite being difficult, many game studios are trying their hand at it. Arc Raiders proved very successful, and even though other games haven’t reached the same level of popularity, several big titles have attempted it. Bungie’s Marathon and a mode in Call of Duty are examples, and rumors suggest a Halo extraction shooter is in the works, hinting at more to come. According to the Steam page for Last Pirates: Die Together, the full game is planned to launch in the third quarter of 2026. Players can try out a demo on May 28th to get an early look at the gameplay.

Make Your Own Story While Filling Your Captain’s Pockets
In Last Pirates: Die Together, you play as the crew of a greedy pirate captain, shipwrecked on a spooky island and tasked with stealing everything you can find. You’ll use your characters’ surprisingly stretchy arms to grab objects – similar to the grabbing tool in R.E.P.O. – and even tear apart the environment to find loot. Players can destroy parts of the island, rip off doors, and haul furniture back to their escape boat. But escaping with the stolen goods won’t be easy, as the treacherous Silent Cove is full of dangers.

Like the popular game Escape from Tarkov, Last Pirates challenges players to gather loot and escape a dangerous coastal area. However, instead of other players being the main threat, Last Pirates focuses on battling AI-controlled supernatural creatures. Players will face ghostly sharks, frightening apparitions, and sea monsters that constantly block their path and force them to work together. Success often depends on smart teamwork – sometimes it’s best to have a few players distract the enemies while another grabs the loot, and other times, finding ways to temporarily disable the creatures will be key.
Similar to the game R.E.P.O., Last Pirates features simple gameplay made more enjoyable with a funny and lighthearted style. Characters comically fall, briefly showing their rear ends (and sometimes featuring another player playfully interacting with them), and have exaggerated, cartoonish designs. As players complete levels and successfully escape, they can collect various clothing items to customize their character and create their own uniquely silly pirate look.
Last Pirates’ Demo is Just a Piece of the Final Puzzle
The demo for Last Pirates is coming soon! While it’s almost a complete version of the game, the full Steam early access release will have more content. In the demo, you’ll only be able to explore the Silent Cove map and its abandoned manor; other areas will be added later. Not all of the objects you’ll eventually be able to interact with will be available in the demo, so there will be more things to destroy, collect, and use in the full game. However, the demo includes the game’s main features and four different monsters that respond to sound and movement, offering a fun experience to help potential players decide if it’s a good game for them and their friends.
