Some Nintendo players recently received surprising emails gently reminding them about games they haven’t finished. It’s common for people to buy more video games than they have time to play, especially with busy schedules, and this seems to be what Nintendo was addressing.
It’s easy to understand why Nintendo players end up with so many unplayed games. The eShop has tons of options, from big-name titles to smaller, independent games. Nintendo has been trying to filter out low-quality games, but there are still thousands to choose from. Frequent sales also encourage players to buy games when they’re on offer, which can sometimes lead to a huge collection of games that never get played.
Nintendo Wants Players to Check Out Some of Their Purchased Games
Reddit user signpostlake, like many gamers, has a long list of unplayed games. They recently shared a funny email they got from Nintendo on the Nintendo Switch 2 subreddit. The email simply asked, “Why not play these games you already own?” and included a picture of the game Thimbleweed Park, which signpostlake had bought on sale but hadn’t gotten around to playing yet.
After sharing the email on Reddit, user signpostlake joked that their list of unplayed games was getting out of hand and wondered if anyone else had received similar messages from Nintendo. The post quickly gained over 2,500 upvotes, and many users replied, sharing that they’d also received emails about other games, including the original Final Fantasy 7. Some people found the email confusing, though, because it seemed to suggest finishing games they already had instead of buying new ones from the eShop – a strange approach for a business. Beyond discussions about game backlogs, several users recommended that signpostlake play Thimbleweed Park, calling it a standout indie title on the Switch.

Having a long list of unplayed games is a good problem for gamers to have, since it means there’s always something fun to choose from. Nintendo fans especially are likely to have a lot to play, and hopefully they’ll get through their list before even more new games come out demanding their attention.
