Just five months after its release, Nintendo is planning a significant increase in production of the Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, in a standard version and a bundle that included a digital copy of *Mario Kart World*. It quickly became the best-selling video game console ever, outselling both its previous model and competitors like the PlayStation 4 and 5. With the holidays approaching and popular games like *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* set to release, Nintendo is increasing production to meet expected high demand.

Switch 2 Sales Push Nintendo to Ramp Up Production for 2026

Bloomberg reports that Nintendo is asking its suppliers to manufacture 25 million of the new Switch 2 consoles by March 2026. Suppliers currently predict around 20 million consoles will be sold in the next year. Nintendo has already seen strong sales numbers for the Switch 2, with an estimated 2.4 million units sold in the US by the end of August 2025. Globally, sales in the first three months are expected to be about 77% higher than the original Switch’s launch, which is driving Nintendo to increase production.

By September 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 had already sold over 2 million units in Japan, a significant success for its first year. Sales are still increasing worldwide, and experts expect a boost during the November and December holiday season. While the total sales for 2025 are still uncertain, Nintendo is already preparing for production and demand in early 2026.
