The most significant revelation from the latest Nintendo Switch 2 Direct didn’t involve the unveiling of a new game by FromSoftware, nor the introduction of the newly developed 3D Donkey Kong platformer.
The new addition to the Mario Kart series by Nintendo, titled “Mario Kart World,” officially made its debut!
Looking forward to the largest Mario Kart game ever made, Mario Kart World offers more than 40 selectable characters and can accommodate as many as 24 players simultaneously.
In this edition of the series, the gameplay offers a broader, open-world layout instead of the closed environments seen in previous installments. Additionally, it introduces the Knock Out mode, a spin on the Battle Royale concept, bringing a touch of excitement to the universe of Mario Kart.
It wasn’t revealed completely, but a keen-eyed Reddit user spotted a sneak peek on the official Nintendo site, suggesting that a beloved track from the past could make a comeback.
Rainbow Road is an essential part of Mario Kart, and it’s great to see it come back again. It’s intriguing to ponder how this classic track will blend with the open-world setting of Mario Kart: World, but I have faith that Nintendo will find a creative solution to make it work.
Mario Kart World’s Price Point Is Giving Fans Sticker Shock

Throughout the week, the cost of Mario Kart World became a hot topic of discussion, priced at around $80 digitally and potentially reaching $90 for physical copies.
Although the Nintendo Switch 2 comes packaged with Mario Kart World at a price of $499.99, which is a $50 increase compared to the console’s standalone cost, many people are expressing dissatisfaction over the pricing structure for the Nintendo Switch 2 and its associated games.
According to Nintendo of America’s Doug Bowser, every game won’t necessarily cost $80. They plan to evaluate each game based on factors like the development effort, scope of gameplay, longevity, and replayability. However, whether this promise holds true in a market where we might see a $100 Grand Theft Auto 6 is yet to be determined.
