Summary
- Nintendo Switch 2, launching June 5, will lack a system-wide achievement feature.
- This is disappointing, but expected.
- Nintendo fans in the US are still waiting to learn when they can pre-order the Switch 2.
It has been verified that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, due for release on June 5, will not feature achievement rewards. During a recent special event, Nintendo unveiled details about the console’s price, launch date, and initial game lineup, creating much excitement for its arrival.
As an ardent fan, I must admit that some aspects concerning the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 have sparked a bit of dissatisfaction among us enthusiasts. The pricing controversy surrounding the new titles like “Mario Kart World” is particularly grating. It’s disheartening to see Nintendo charging $80 for the digital version and an even steeper $90 for the physical release.
Moreover, the decision to sell the “Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour,” which functions as a tutorial game showcasing the Switch 2’s unique features, as a paid digital release instead of offering it free as a pack-in title has raised eyebrows among fans. This move seems counterintuitive, given that such a tutorial could help new users navigate and appreciate the Switch 2 more easily.
As a dedicated gamer, it’s always a bummer to learn about another feature missing from the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. In an exclusive sit-down with Polygon, Nintendo shared that this new console won’t include an achievement system. Although individual games can still offer their own in-game accomplishments, there won’t be a unified achievement or trophy system akin to those found on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, or the Epic Games Store.
Nintendo Switch 2 Won’t Have Achievements

Gamers who enjoy collecting achievements or trophies might feel let down to discover that the Switch 2 won’t include them, a feature that’s been absent from Nintendo consoles like the Wii, Wii U, and the original Nintendo Switch. Given this history, it’s not surprising that many longtime Nintendo fans anticipated this. The lack of an achievement/trophy system on previous Nintendo platforms suggests that the company doesn’t find the feature particularly appealing, despite its widespread popularity among gamers. For some, the absence of achievements/trophies might influence their choice when purchasing multi-platform games, but others who don’t value these features won’t be swayed by this omission on the Switch 2.
It would have been a pleasant addition if the Switch 2 included an achievement system, given that they’ve become quite common. Some people appreciate earning these achievements, while others who aren’t interested in them can easily overlook them.
As a gamer eagerly waiting for the Switch 2, I’ve got to share some potentially disheartening news. Though Nintendo has set the initial price at $449.99, there’s a possibility that this might change due to Trump’s tariffs. The company postponed the US pre-order date from April 9 to an unspecified future moment after the tariff announcement, hinting that a price rise could be on the horizon.
