Nintendo Switch is Getting the Perfect Pokemon Replacement on May 26

The monster-collecting RPG LumenTale: Memories of Trey is coming to the Nintendo Switch on May 26th, and it has the potential to be a great alternative to Pokemon for fans this year. Since the Switch launched in 2017, Nintendo Switch players have enjoyed numerous official Pokemon games, including remakes like Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl, as well as new installments like Pokemon Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet. The Switch has also seen some really creative new takes on the Pokemon formula, such as Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

It appears that Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be the final major Pokemon game released on the original Nintendo Switch. While Pokemon Winds and Waves is planned for 2027 as a launch title for the Switch 2, fans won’t be left without *Pokemoninspired games on the original Switch. A new and exciting game in that vein is already set to release later this month.

LumenTale is a New Pokemon-Like Coming to Switch

Launching on the Nintendo Switch on May 26th is LumenTale: Memories of Trey, a new game similar to Pokemon. LumenTale takes place in the world of Talea and features creatures called Animon. Players can catch and battle with these Animon, choosing from around 140 different species across 13 elemental types. Battles will focus on elemental advantages and disadvantages, just like in Pokemon, and will include both one-on-one and four-versus-four fights.

Like Pokemon, LumenTale will let players trade creatures, cook, and craft items. It’s yet to be seen if LumenTale can pull off these features as well as Pokemon, but fans will find out when the game launches on May 26th.

LumenTale will launch on Steam on May 26th. Plus, because the new Switch 2 works with existing Switch games, you’ll also be able to play it on Nintendo’s newest system.

I’ve been checking out LumenTale, and the art style is really cool – you explore a fully 3D world, but you play as a pixel art character. It’s a neat contrast that makes the game look different from a lot of other monster-catching RPGs, like Pokemon. But it’s not just the visuals; the story seems a lot more mature too. The game is set in a world torn apart by civil war, so it’s dealing with some pretty dark themes, which is a nice change of pace from the usual lighthearted monster-catching adventures.

It remains to be seen how Nintendo Switch players will receive LumenTale, but we won’t have to wait long to find out. Early looks at the game are encouraging, and with rumors suggesting we won’t hear anything new about Pokemon Winds and Waves this year, LumenTale could be a great way to keep fans entertained. I’m personally excited about it and hope it delivers a fun, *Pokemonlike experience for Nintendo Switch owners.
