One Piece: 8 Strongest Pirate Crews That Got Destroyed

The world of One Piece takes place during a golden age of piracy, where powerful crews compete to find the ultimate treasure, known as the One Piece, by navigating the treacherous Grand Line. This ocean is filled with perils – from the Marines and rival pirates to dangerous weather – leading to the downfall of countless crews, many of whom are lost at sea. Though some pirates become famous, many others are defeated in their pursuit of power, and the latest arc of the story continues to showcase these struggles.

8. Rocks Pirates

  • Captain: Rocks D. Xebec

Long ago in the world of One Piece, the Rocks Pirates were the most powerful crew sailing the Grand Line. They were defeated and disappeared from history 38 years ago in a battle that took place on God Valley.

The Rocks Pirates weren’t a particularly close group, but they were still very successful. However, everything fell apart when Shakky was kidnapped and Xebec’s family was threatened in God Valley. Many of the crew turned against Xebec, and even those who remained loyal couldn’t protect him. Rocks D. Xebec died in God Valley – first he was sent flying backwards with a ‘Domi Reverse,’ and then Garling stabbed him. After his death, the remaining members scattered, and some went on to form their own pirate groups.

7. Whitebeard Remnants

  • Captain: N/A

The Whitebeard Pirates are a very popular group in the One Piece anime and manga. They were captained by Edward Newgate, widely considered the strongest fighter in the world. Key members of his crew included powerful figures like Marco, Portgas D. Ace, Jozu, and Vista.

Following Whitebeard’s death at Marineford, his crew didn’t disband right away. A significant group, led by Marco the Phoenix, continued to operate. However, they were eventually defeated and destroyed while seeking revenge for Whitebeard’s death in a conflict known as the Grudge War against the Blackbeard Pirates. They ultimately lost and were completely wiped out.

6. Donquixote Pirates

  • Captain: Donquixote Doflamingo

After the two-year timeskip, the Donquixote Pirates were a major group of enemies for the Straw Hat Pirates, led by the powerful Donquixote Doflamingo, who was a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. While the Donquixote family as a whole wasn’t particularly impressive – Doflamingo was clearly their strongest member – they still presented a significant challenge to overcome.

Doflamingo’s pirate crew was completely defeated during the Dressrosa Arc. Luffy’s powerful Gear 4 form allowed him to finally beat Doflamingo, and while all the crew members survived, most have been arrested. The crew’s organization is finished, and Doflamingo himself is now imprisoned in Impel Down’s deepest level. Although Doflamingo might reappear in the future story, it won’t be with his old crew.

5. Beast Pirates

  • Captain: Yonko Kaido

The Beast Pirates were an incredibly powerful crew, considered one of the strongest in the series, and were led by Kaido, formerly known as the World’s Strongest Creature. Their downfall had been foreshadowed since the story jumped forward in time.

During the battle to take down Kaido at Onigashima, Luffy defeated him, effectively ending the reign of the Beast Pirates. While Luffy fought Kaido, the rest of the Straw Hat crew and their allies defeated all of Kaido’s followers. Kaido is believed to be dead, and the remaining members of his crew have been captured.

4. Heart Pirates

  • Captain: Trafalgar D. Water Law

The Heart Pirates, captained by Trafalgar Law, are a popular crew among fans. While Law is the most prominent member, Bepo, Penguin, and Satchi are also important characters within the group.

Law had experienced success in Wano, even managing to defeat a Yonko alongside Kid. However, things quickly went wrong for him after that. After parting ways with the Straw Hat Pirates, his ship, the Heart Pirates, was ambushed and decimated by Blackbeard’s crew. Law only survived thanks to Bepo, and they are the sole survivors; the rest of the Heart Pirates are believed to be dead.

3. Kid Pirates

  • Captain: Eustass Captain Kid

Eustass Kid, a powerful pirate captain known as part of the Worst Generation, played a key role in the battle at Onigashima, helping to defeat the Yonko Big Mom. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse for him after leaving Wano. He made the risky decision to confront Shanks, which proved disastrous. Despite having a bounty of 3 billion berries, Shanks completely destroyed Kid’s entire crew with a single attack. Kid and his first mate, Killer, were last seen sinking into the ocean. Their current fate is unknown, but many fans believe they perished, as there was no help available and, being Devil Fruit users, they are unable to swim.

2. Rumbar Pirates

  • Captains: Yorki, Brook

The Rumbar Pirates were a relatively small crew. They were Brook’s first pirate group, active over 59 years ago, and originally led by Yorki. When Yorki became ill and navigated the dangerous Calm Belt, Brook became captain. Sadly, despite the change in leadership, the crew ultimately met with misfortune.

Oh man, the story of the Rumbar Pirates just breaks my heart! They sailed right into the Florian Triangle and were ambushed by a rival crew – a really nasty one that poisoned them all. It was awful, they started falling one by one. Luckily, Brook had eaten the Revive-Revive Fruit, so he didn’t go down with the ship, but he was the only survivor. That day marked the end of the Rumbar Pirates, even though Brook lived on. It’s amazing to think that tragedy eventually led him to join the Straw Hats, though! What a journey.

1. Gecko Pirates

  • Captain: Gecko Moria

Gecko Moria used to be one of the powerful Warlords of the Sea, and Luffy defeated him before the two-year timeskip. While many remember his fight with the Straw Hats at Thriller Bark, Moria actually had a previous crew called the Gecko Pirates. This crew was completely defeated by Kaido and his Beast Pirates during the Wano arc, and the loss deeply affected Moria.

Gecko Moria gave up his crew to journey towards Wano, the country that had once been so kind to him, hoping to save it. Even though it meant losing his shipmates, his decision was a noble one.
