Phasmophobia’s Alan Wake Event Was Written By Remedy’s Sam Lake

The game Phasmophobia is teaming up with the world of Alan Wake, and the crossover story was actually written by Sam Lake himself! Players will have three weeks to experience all the new content before it’s removed.

Since the release of Alan Wake 2 in 2023, the story world it’s part of has only been expanded once with FBC: Firebreak. While Remedy Entertainment plans to continue the shared universe with Control Resonant in 2026, the Alan Wake 2: The Lake House DLC was the last major addition to the core Alan Wake series. For fans eager for more of the story, a special event in the game Phasmophobia offers a temporary way to experience the world before it ends.

Phasmophobia Alan Wake Story Was Penned By Sam Lake

Okay, so the Phasmophobia Alan Wake event is finally here, and it’s seriously cool! I just heard from GameSpot that the whole thing started because someone at Kinetic Games reached out to Remedy Entertainment on Twitter way back in 2024. Apparently, they were brainstorming a crossover, and it actually happened! The best part? Sam Lake, who wrote both Alan Wake games, wrote the story for this event, and Matthew Porretta, the voice of Alan Wake, does all the narration. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s awesome to see these two worlds collide!

Fans of Alan Wake and Phasmophobia have a lot to discover in a new crossover event! The update includes new character skins inspired by Alan Wake and Saga Anderson, taking advantage of Phasmophobia‘s recent character updates. Four maps – Nell’s Diner, Camp Woodwind, Grafton Farmhouse, and Bleasdale Farmhouse – have been redesigned for the event. Players can also unlock Alan Wakethemed charms, an ID card, and a badge simply by playing the game. The developers at Kinetic Games have confirmed that these items won’t be available for purchase with real money; there are no plans for microtransactions in Phasmophobia*.

Currently, this is the only time Phasmophobia has officially teamed up with another game, specifically Alan Wake, and there aren’t any firm plans for another similar event. However, the teams behind both games believe the collaboration worked really well and haven’t ruled out the possibility of doing it again in the future. Kinetic Games mentioned they’re open to more partnerships, but any future games need to be a good fit for Phasmophobia. Remedy Entertainment pointed out that the story of Alan Wake already allows for changes to reality, making this crossover a perfect pairing.

Before that, on May 5th, Phasmophobia received a major update to its characters, but it unfortunately launched with some visual bugs and glitches. The developers have now addressed these problems with a new update that also includes the Alan Wake event content.
