PS5 Action RPG The First Berserker: Khazan Didn’t Meet Sales Expectations, But Nexon’s Oddly Unbothered

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been diving deep into “The First Berserker: Khazan,” and while it seems like publisher Nexon hasn’t quite hit their sales targets with this game – that doesn’t appear to be a problem from the look of their latest financial report.

The role-playing game with action elements debuted for PlayStation 5 in March and received generally positive feedback. Although it attracted enthusiasts similar to those who enjoy games reminiscent of the “Souls” series, it failed to create a significant impact on sales records.

Nexon admits that its Q1 revenue didn’t meet expectations due to Khazan’s commercial performance, however, they also emphasize that the game successfully fulfilled its role as an initial step in a long-term strategy to present the Dungeon & Fighter IP to a global market.

Essentially, from the publisher’s perspective, Khazan has been instrumental in opening up opportunities for Dungeon & Fighter (commonly known as DNF) to expand its reach, particularly in the western markets. Although it has been a significant success in Asia since 2005, it hasn’t received the necessary support for an international expansion until now.

Currently, the strategy is to introduce two fresh games from Nexon. They are referring to these projects as “Project OVERKILL”, a mobile action RPG, and “Dungeon&Fighter: ARAD”, which resembles Genshin Impact in style, having been previewed at The Game Awards previously.
