Sephiroth Sells Out In Bizarre Final Fantasy 7 Beer Commercial

Sephiroth, one of the most famous villains in video game history, is starring in commercials for a Japanese beer brand. This surprising turn comes after his appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Final Fantasy 7 has always been popular for merchandise, starting with things like cologne featuring Cloud and Sephiroth during the game’s initial release. But promotion for Final Fantasy 7 Remake really took it to the next level, with characters appearing on everything from food and drinks to the more expensive items you’d expect from Square Enix, like jewelry and clothes.

Despite being a distant and dangerous villain, Sephiroth is a popular character, which is why he’s now starring in a commercial for Asahi’s lemon-flavored beer on YouTube. The ad shows what fans have always wondered: Sephiroth relaxing with a cold beer after attempting to become a god.

Famitsu reports that Sephiroth is enjoying a Future Lemon Sour Asahi Beet drink. Interestingly, the same iconic Masamune sword he famously used to destroy Nibelheim and kill Cloud’s mother is now being used to cut lemons for the beverage.

If you’re in the Roppongi Hills or Ooyane Plaza area, you can visit Lemon’s Heaven, a cafe inspired by the Seventh Heaven bar from Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and even buy the featured drink.

Okay, so it’s seriously messed up, but the same giant sword – Masamune – that destroyed Nibelheim and, like, killed Cloud’s mom? Yeah, they’re using that thing to cut lemons for some drink. It’s just… weirdly unsettling, honestly.

It’s a bit unexpected to see Sephiroth in this ad, considering how many recognizable characters Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has. Cloud or Tifa might have been more obvious picks. Perhaps Square Enix is avoiding the image of their main heroes drinking alcohol, though?

It’s funny to picture Sephiroth relaxing with a cold beer. It makes you wonder if he ever partied or drank when he was younger, since we don’t know much about his life before joining Soldier, except for what’s revealed in Ever Crisis.
