Akira Yamaoka, the composer known for most of the music in the Silent Hill series, is creating the soundtrack for Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy. He joins the development team for the final game in the Remothered trilogy, which began with Tormented Feathers in 2018 and continued with Broken Porcelain in 2020.
The first two games in the Remothered series have received a mixed response from players and critics. While Remothered: Tormented Feathers was generally well-received, the sequel didn’t perform as well, earning a critic score of 44 compared to the first game’s 70. The Remothered games are often compared to the classic survival horror title Clock Tower, and the creator of Silent Hill previously praised Remothered: Tormented Feathers.
Remothered Gains Akira Yamaoka as Composer
The psychological horror game Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy just got a major boost: legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka is joining the team. A new video features Yamaoka discussing his vision for the game’s music, explaining he’s aiming for a uniquely immersive sound. Instead of traditional scoring, he’s creating music that subtly ‘seeps in’ and blends with the environment, becoming part of the game’s atmosphere. Yamaoka hopes the music will be more than just memorable; he wants players to experience a lasting, unforgettable feeling.

The team behind Remothered is thrilled to be working with Akira Yamaoka, the composer known for his iconic and fear-inducing music in Silent Hill. They believe his work fundamentally changed how fear is experienced through music. Antonio Cannata, CEO of Stormind Games, sees this partnership as a key move in their goal to create more immersive and terrifying horror games. Previously, Luca Balboni composed the music for the Remothered series, with Nobuko Toda also contributing to the first game’s soundtrack.
Stormind Games announced that they will be sharing more information about the game soon, and confirmed that Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy is still scheduled to release by the end of 2026. Players can expect it on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Physical copies will be available for the Switch 2 and PS5 versions.

Akira Yamaoka is a well-known composer, especially among gamers for his iconic work on the Silent Hill series. However, his talent extends far beyond that single franchise. He’s contributed music to games like No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, The Medium by Bloober Team, and Slitterhead – a game directed by the original creator of Silent Hill. More recently, Yamaoka composed the acclaimed soundtrack for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the popular Netflix anime inspired by Cyberpunk 2077.
I’m really curious to see if Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy can live up to the first game in the series. Knowing Akira Yamaoka is doing the soundtrack definitely gets my hopes up – his music always adds so much tension! The developers, Stormind, seem confident they’re pushing the boundaries of narrative horror, which is cool. And with games like Resident Evil: Requiem and the Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake already out, and Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy and The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 coming this year, 2026 is looking like a fantastic year to be a horror game fan!
