Steam Makes 4 Games 100% Free Until May 18

Steam is currently offering a Free Weekend promotion where you can try out four games for free until May 18th at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET. This is different from Steam’s Free-to-Keep events – once the weekend is over, access to the free games will end. If you enjoy any of them, they’ll be on sale with discounts ranging from 35% to 75% until either May 21st or May 28th.

Before the recent promotions, GreedFall: The Dying World was available for a free weekend starting May 13th, and it’s still part of the offer, though it ends one day earlier, on May 17th. It’s also currently on sale. If none of the other free games catch your interest, or if you’ve tried those and are still looking for something to play, GreedFall: The Dying World is a great fantasy RPG you can try for free.

Steam’s Big Free Weekend

As mentioned before, the free games currently available in Steam’s promotion won’t be playable after May 18th at 10 am Pacific Time / 1 pm Eastern Time, so if you’re interested, you should download them quickly! Unlike some free game events, all of these titles have received positive feedback from players. You can currently try out V Rising, Misery, Make Way, and Astral Ascent. To get them, just visit the Steam page and add them to your account as usual, but remember you’ll lose access if you don’t buy them before the promotion ends. We’ve included Steam links below with more details to help you decide which game(s) you might enjoy.

Steam is currently offering a “Free-to-Keep” promotion, and one of the featured games is “Terror to Unveil – Day Off,” a highly-rated horror game scheduled for release in 2025. If you download it before the promotion ends, you get to keep the game permanently – unlike Steam’s free weekend events where you only get temporary access.

Open-World Survival Game V Rising is Free on Steam Right Now

V Rising understands what players love – and hate – about survival games, and streamlines the experience to focus on the most enjoyable elements. You start as a vampire, which instantly gives the game a unique feel compared to other open-world survival titles. As you play, you’ll need to hunt for blood, stay out of the sun, and build your own castle. The combat is quick and challenging, and the game features well-integrated systems that all work together. It’s an atmospheric, intense, and surprisingly rewarding experience.

  • Open-world vampire survival with castle building
  • PvE and PvP multiplayer options alongside solo play
  • Boss-driven progression system unlocks new abilities
  • Daylight survival mechanics add constant tension
  • Can You Beat it This Weekend? No, It Takes 60+ Hours to Beat
  • Play V Rising for Free on Steam

Co-Op Survival Game Misery is Free on Steam Right Now

Misery creates a truly oppressive and bleak atmosphere, making even basic survival feel like a major achievement. While many post-apocalyptic games focus on the broad scope of a ruined world, Misery emphasizes the harsh realities of daily life. Every minute is a struggle for resources, and exploration is genuinely dangerous – it’s a relentlessly miserable experience. This rawness adds to the tension and makes it especially appealing to players who prefer immersive, desperate survival games over those focused on becoming powerful.

  • Harsh post-apocalyptic survival gameplay
  • Resource management and exploration-focused progression
  • Dark, oppressive world design built around tension
  • Can You Beat It This Weekend? Yes, It Takes ~10 Hours to Beat
  • Play MISERY for Free on Steam

Online Racing Game Make Way is Free on Stream Right Now

Make Way is a multiplayer game guaranteed to spark some playfully competitive (and potentially friendship-testing!) moments. Unlike traditional racers with fixed tracks, players create the course before the race, then unleash mayhem on each other with traps, speed boosts, loops, and weapons. It’s a straightforward idea, and the game delivers on that promise perfectly.

  • Players build tracks together between rounds
  • Chaotic top-down multiplayer racing gameplay
  • Weapons, hazards, and traps constantly shift races
  • Inspired by party racers like Micro Machines and Mashed
  • Can You Beat It This Weekend? Yes, It Takes ~5 Hours to Beat
  • Play Make Way for Free on Steam

Action Roguelike Game Astral Ascent is Free on Steam Right Now

As a roguelike fan, I’ve been telling everyone about Astral Ascent lately, and for good reason! It delivers the quick, addictive gameplay we all love, but it’s seriously gorgeous. The pixel art is stunning, the platforming is smooth, and every run feels different as you try out new spells and abilities. You’re constantly juggling chaos and control as you battle these incredibly tough Zodiac bosses in the Garden. But what really hooked me is how energetic the whole game feels – it just makes you want to jump right back in for ‘one more run,’ and that’s the mark of a truly great action roguelike.

  • Four playable heroes with distinct combat styles
  • Dozens of spells and build combinations across runs
  • Hand-crafted pixel art worlds and Zodiac boss fights
  • Solo play or two-player co-op support
  • Can You Beat It This Weekend? Maybe, ~22 hours to beat but an addictive gameplay loop can add hours easily
  • Play Astral Ascent for Free on Steam
