Stellar Blade Sequel Announcement Will Be When Game Is In “A Good Shape”

Stellar Blade is easily the most successful game so far from South Korean developer Shift Up. After selling millions on PlayStation, it became incredibly popular on Steam as well, making a sequel almost certain.

We’ve seen early artwork hinting at the second game’s setting – ruined, plant-covered buildings inspired by the city of Chongqing, China – but haven’t had many details. However, a recent interview suggests a full reveal could be coming soon. According to the CEO of Shift Up, they’re waiting to share more until the game is polished and ready to show off.

Speaking to 4Gamer in Japan (and translated by top-mob.com), Kim revealed that with video game development, it is “done slowly and carefully, there are always times when it looks like nothing is happening from the outside.” This led him to discussions about the studio’s unnamed next title.

We’re putting a lot of effort into getting the product finalized, and we want to share it with you when it’s truly ready,” Kim explained. “We’d prefer to announce it only when it’s polished and complete, so everyone can see the best version.

When a 4Gamer reporter pressed the CEO about the game’s progress, asking if it was nearing the “good shape” he’d previously described, he offered some positive feedback.

He admitted revealing details would be a major spoiler, suggesting instead, “Get ready, something exciting is coming soon!” While Summer Game Fest is a possibility for the announcement, it might be too early. If not then, Gamescom or The Game Awards are the most likely places we’ll see the reveal.

‘The time has come when you can have a little bit of expectation’

The South Korean company has been expanding quickly. Recently, they purchased Unbound Studio, led by Shinji Makami, a veteran of games like Resident Evil and Okami. They plan to create and publish new PC and console games for players worldwide. This move follows comments from the company’s leader about the need to embrace AI in game development to stay competitive with China.
