Clam Leviathan Location Overview – Subnautica 2

  • The Great Jaw Clam Leviathan is found in the Tufa Towers region, in the south-west corner of Proteus. It is about 350 meters south-west of the Lifepod.
  • You can use the Wander Blackbox as a guide. Once you reach the pit where Wander is found, head south into the depths.
  • While you do not technically need them to reach the Great Jaw, having the High Capacity Air Tank and the Tadpole vehicle will make it much easier to reach and navigate the area surrounding the Clam Leviathan.
  • The center of the Great Jaw contains Lithium deposits, which must be broken with the Sonic Resonator before you can collect them. You will also find two fragments of the Portable Oxygen Dispenser, which will unlock the blueprint when scanned.
  • Watch out for the purple rope-like strands in the center of the pod. When tripped, they will cause the Great Jaw to close around you.

How to Reach the Great Jaw Clam Leviathan Location in Subnautica 2

Start from the Lifepod:

If you’re heading to the Great Jaw, I recommend starting back at your Lifepod. Here’s a quick list of things I found helpful when I went to see the Clam Leviathan:

Item Use
High Capacity Air Tank This upgrade to the Standard Air Tank increases your overall oxygen supply to 120 seconds, almost doubling the Standard Air Tank’s 75 seconds of Oxygen Time. It should go without saying that an increased oxygen supply in Subnautica 2 is important. The blueprint can be found in the wreckage to the north-east of the great jaw. The Data Card is found on the left immediately after entering the wreckage. You’ll need Lithium x1 and Titanium x2 to craft the required Plasteel Ingot in a Processor.
Tadpole While it is not required, building the small Tadpole vehicle will allow you to quickly reach the depths of Tufa Towers region. This is more of an issue of convenience, as you can certainly reach the target without it, but it makes it much easier.
Air Bladder For players who choose to go without a Tadpole, make sure to bring an Air Bladder. This will help you quickly reach the surface if you get in trouble.
Beacon Materials Once you reach the Great Jaw, you can craft a Beacon to mark the location — if you’ve unlocked the blueprint. There are several Beacons to scan in the wreckage north of the Great Jaw. You can then use the Habitat Builder to craft a Beacon anywhere. It requires Titanium x1 and Copper x1.

Before you explore, designate your Lifepod or a Habitat you’ve constructed as your respawn point. This ensures that if you die, you’ll reappear close by, rather than at a distant and forgotten Biobed.

Head to the Wander Blackbox:

If you haven’t been to this area before, the easiest way to get there is by using the Wander Blackbox signal. You’ll find it in the “Signals” tab of the main menu.

Once the “Wander” signal is on, go southwest along the cliff edge between the shallow and deep parts of the seafloor. Just follow the cliff, and it will lead you straight to Wander.

Head South to the Great Jaw Clam Leviathan:

Once you find the big, spider-crab-like coral formation over the pit containing the Wander Blackbox, you can go south and carefully climb down the cliff. You’ll soon see a large piece of wreckage in front of you.

You’ll find the blueprint for the High Capacity Air Tank at this shipwreck, right inside the entrance on a Data Card.

Once you get past the debris, you’ll see the enormous Great Jaw Clam Leviathan. Before you go further, grab the Oxygen Tunic near the cliff edge – it’ll give you a good supply of air for exploring the area.

Warning! Diving deeper than 100 meters will make your air supply run out quickly. This is particularly risky when navigating the central part of the Great Jaw, especially while concentrating on the purple trip wires. I learned this the hard way – I ran out of air three times in a row because I was too focused on avoiding the dangers around me.

What is Inside the Great Jaw Leviathan Clam in Subnautica 2?

Great Jaw Leviathan Clam Rewards:

If you make it to the center of the Great Jaw, there are two key rewards:

  • Lithium: This incredibly rare resource can be found inside the central pod. You must craft and use the Sonic Resonator to break up and collect the deposits.
  • Portable Oxygen Dispenser Blueprint: This incredibly useful device can be crafted once you scan the two that are found in the center. One is sitting just outside the central pod, and the other is inside the pod, beneath a piece of Metal Salvage.

Q: Will the Sonic Resonator cause the trip-wires to break?

It’s a bit of both. I managed to power up and fire the Sonic Resonator using the purple cable. Just be careful – the kickback is strong enough to send you flying into any tripwires, so always check what’s behind you in the pod.
