The mimics introduced in Directive 8020 show up early on and soon become a major danger to the ship’s crew. These aliens can flawlessly imitate the look and behavior of anyone on board, making it nearly impossible to identify who has been replaced.
In Episode 7, after Anders gets separated from the team on the alien planet, players need to find her while also dealing with another threat from the mimics. This guide, covering all possible results from your search choice – detailed in Directive 8020 – will help you navigate the situation.
How to Find Real Anders in Directive 8020?
When you reach the fork in the road during the Search Party section, Cernan needs to choose which way to go. Before deciding, check the messages app and talk to Anders for clues about where she is. She can’t remember which path she took, but she does recall walking over a bridge that later fell down. She also mentions the cave she’s hiding in has stalactites. These details are key to finding the real Anders.
It might seem like the initial choice isn’t important, as you can always go back and try the other path. But that’s not true. One path will take you to the real Anders, while the other leads to a creature disguised as her. Choosing the correct path is crucial, as it determines whether you’ll be able to save all the crew members throughout the game.
If you go left, you’ll pass geysers and squeeze through a tight space, which opens into a cave where you’ll see someone who looks like Anders far away. But before you reach her, a fake message from someone pretending to be Anders will tell you you’re getting closer. The Anders you see is actually an imposter. Choosing this path means the real Anders will be left behind on the planet and won’t survive.
Towards the episode’s conclusion, a scene reveals that the Anders you discovered was, in fact, a mimic.
Okay, so if I go the right way, I eventually hit a broken bridge and have to jump down. Right after that, I need to duck and crawl through this tiny hole that leads into a cave full of stalactites. As I get closer to Anders, this imposter sends me a message saying I’m going the wrong way. But I know better – I’m ignoring that message and pushing forward to find the real Anders and make sure she’s okay.
