The initial trailer for the new Resident Evil movie, directed by Zach Cregger (known for his well-received horror film Weapons), is now available and delivers a suitably frightening experience. Sony Pictures and Constantin Film are producing the movie, with Cregger and Shay Hatten (who co-wrote the John Wick films) handling the script.
The new trailer centers around a character, played by Austin Abrams, exploring what seems to be an empty house. He tries to reach his wife or girlfriend, and then we see quick, frightening images: decaying bodies, a large, shadowy figure, and zombies jumping from buildings. Abrams’ character runs as the chaos unfolds. Because it’s a short teaser, the trailer effectively establishes the scary and intense atmosphere of the movie.

The story centers on an unlucky delivery driver who has to get a package to a distant hospital. Things quickly go wrong when he discovers an outbreak has occurred, and he’s forced to battle waves of monstrous, mutated beings just to stay alive.
The film is intended to take place within the established timeline of the Resident Evil games, specifically during the disastrous night of the Raccoon City outbreak. However, instead of focusing on well-known characters like Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, or Jill Valentine, the story centers around a delivery person (played by Abrams) who stumbles into the city’s horrors while on a crucial assignment.
Okay, so the script for the new movie leaked a while back and a lot of us fans were worried about some of the directions they were taking. But after seeing the teaser trailer, I’m feeling a lot better! It looks like the director is really leaning into the horror and building up a creepy atmosphere, which is exactly what I wanted. Fingers crossed this finally gives us a really good Resident Evil movie – we’ve been waiting for one for so long!
