At San Diego Comic-Con, held annually in sunny California, pop culture enthusiasts have been treated to a whirlwind of exhilarating news, particularly for those with a penchant for horror. In an electrifying development, details emerged about the future of the iconic “Friday the 13th” franchise. This includes confirmation of a new movie and video game! Since its inception in 1970, Comic-Con has grown from a gathering focused on comic books and sci-fi media to one of the world’s largest conventions. Today, it’s not just about comics anymore – it’s also a hub for movie and TV announcements, Marvel and DC updates, and this year, horror is stealing the spotlight with “Friday the 13th” taking center stage.
Since its initial release in cinemas, the “Friday the 13th” franchise has produced a total of 12 horror films, branching out to create television shows, books, comics, and video games. The narrative centers around Jason Voorhees, a character initially believed to have drowned at Camp Crystal Lake, only to come back from the dead and launch a brutal series of murders. Recently, excitement has been building as Universal Studios unveiled plans for a new “Friday the 13th” attraction, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the infamous summer camp setting that’s become synonymous with this iconic slasher series.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news from the world of Horror Inc., directly from Vice President Robbie Barsamian! He revealed that a new sequel movie and game have taken priority on their list of projects. He emphasized, “We’re pouring most of our energy into these right now, and I can assure you, we’re finally in a position to deliver.”
Though they haven’t made an official announcement with their partners yet, Barsamian confirmed that both are in development and on the way. This news comes after the servers for Friday the 13th: The Game were shut down in December 2024, and the removal of Evil Dead: The Game from circulation this year. So, fellow horror enthusiasts, it seems we’ve got more chilling adventures to look forward to!
New Friday the 13th Sequel Movie and Game Announced at San Diego Comic-Con
Back in 2017, “Friday the 13th: The Game,” an asymmetrical survival horror, was unveiled by developers at IllFonic. Even though the game has now been closed down, fans were overjoyed to learn that San Diego Comic-Con would be showcasing a brand-new Jason Voorhees action figure. This figure is modeled after Jason’s appearance in “Friday the 13th: The Game,” and it came as a pleasant surprise to the players.
Fans are eagerly anticipating a prequel series titled “Crystal Lake,” set before details about the new movie surface. This series is being developed by Brad Caleb Kane, who surprisingly lends his voice to Disney’s “Aladdin.” The production company A24, known for its distinctive horror projects, is producing this series. In an unexpected twist, a Marvel and “The Curse of La Llorona” star has been cast as Jason’s mother in the prequel, while Callum Vinson was later added to play the young Jason.
