The recent announcement of maintenance for the Nintendo eShop has sparked speculation that the July 2025 Direct could be just around the corner. For some time now, various insiders have suggested an impending event, but no clear details have surfaced yet. However, it seems that a Direct stream might be taking place on Thursday, July 31, potentially offering gamers insights into upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games.
As a proud owner of the newly launched Switch 2, I’ve witnessed history in the making! The global sales of this console have smashed records, selling over 3.5 million units within its first four days, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever. However, some fellow gamers and I were left a bit underwhelmed by its day-one offerings, particularly the first-party releases. Games like “Mario Kart World” and “Donkey Kong Bananza” are already chart-toppers, but we’re eagerly waiting for more Nintendo games to keep us entertained. A Nintendo Direct stream seems crucial for the continued success of the Switch 2, and it looks like our prayers might be answered soon, as a new rumor suggests one could be just around the corner.
According to an announcement on the official Nintendo Japan site (as reported by DualShockers), both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 will undergo maintenance from July 30 at 11 PM PT to July 31 at 12:30 AM PT. This downtime usually precedes significant events like a Nintendo Direct, where games are often released or pre-ordered following their release date announcements. With leaker CentroLeaks recently hinting at a Nintendo Direct still scheduled for the end of July, and several highly anticipated Nintendo titles due in 2025 lacking release dates, this could be an opportunity for Nintendo to share more details with its audience.
A Nintendo Direct Might Happen on Thursday, July 31
If the anticipated Direct event indeed occurs this week, fans might receive a confirmed release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond or further details about Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. Furthermore, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is still set to launch in October and will be playable on both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. With the high cost of the console, there’s a strong desire among consumers for more exclusive games to become available earlier rather than later.
The list of upcoming games for the Switch 2 console has quite a few titles on it, many of which are actually versions of games that were originally released on other platforms (known as third-party ports). In August, there will be an updated version of the game Kirby and the Forgotten Land available for purchase. In September, we can expect to see new releases such as Star Wars Outlaws, EA Sports FC 26, and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.
