Gamers who are still using PlayStation 4 and haven’t upgraded to PS5 might get a chance to enjoy Resident Evil Requiem (also known as Resident Evil 9), as speculation swirls that it could be released on the older console. First unveiled at Summer Game Fest in June, this upcoming title then made an appearance at Gamescom in August, offering a deeper look into protagonist Grace Ashcroft’s past. However, there are still many details about the game that remain undisclosed.
It’s widely expected that the game titled “Resident Evil Requiem” will prominently feature Leon S. Kennedy, sharing the lead role with Grace Ashcroft. According to credible sources, Leon will have more action-oriented scenes in the game, whereas Grace’s parts are said to be heavily horror-oriented. In the upcoming months before its release on February 27, 2026, there could be further announcements about the game, potentially revealing Leon’s appearance and also hinting at additional platforms for its availability.
Resident Evil Requiem Rumored for PS4 and Switch 2

Based on reports from Resident Evil insider AestheticGamer/Dusk Golem, it appears that a PlayStation 4 version of Resident Evil: Vengeance (also known as Resident Evil: Requiem) is in development. This PS4 version is rumored to be using different technology compared to the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions, and may not include all the same features or high-end graphics. Additionally, there are whispers that this game might also be making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2, though it’s uncertain whether lower-tier versions will be available at launch alongside the premium editions for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S when Resident Evil: Requiem is set to release on February 27.
After a span of 12 years since the PS4’s debut, we’re now five years into the PS5 era, so it might come as a shock to some that Capcom seems to be planning to release “Resident Evil Requiem” on the platform. Given that the PS4 is among the most widely-used video game consoles in history with a large user base, bringing “Resident Evil Requiem” to PS4 could boost its sales further. However, it may also slow down the project’s progress. Moreover, since other recent Resident Evil games have been launched on the PS4 as well, this move would suggest that we haven’t yet experienced a genuinely “next-gen” Resident Evil title.

In 2020, the remake of Resident Evil 3 was made available for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One. Meanwhile, the remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village were exclusively launched on PS4. Recently, Capcom attributed the lower-than-anticipated sales of Monster Hunter Wilds to the high cost of the PlayStation 5. Given this, it’s not surprising that there are rumors about a possible PS4 port of Requiem being considered by Capcom.

It’s wise for fans to approach the news about Resident Evil Requiem with some skepticism, as it hasn’t officially been announced for PS4 or Switch 2 yet. It could very well pass over those platforms. We might get more details during Capcom Tokyo’s Game Show event on September 24th, but only time will tell.
