Although the recent Magic: The Gathering set featuring Spider-Man is smaller than typical full releases and some fans wish it explored the Spider-Man universe more thoroughly, it still includes some powerful cards that could significantly impact gameplay in different formats. This is common with most MTG sets, but certain Spider-Man cards stand out by offering exciting new strategies or enhancing existing ones. For instance, the new Peter Parker’s Camera card is a strong addition to many Commander decks and could be problematic in other formats, though it isn’t one of the set’s most expensive cards.
Many *Magic: The Gathering* cards can be quite pricey, and even newly released cards often cost between $20 and $50 or more. Vivi Ornitier is a good example – it was popular in many game formats and remained around $50 for a long time after it was first released. The new *Spider-Man* set comes out next week, and some cards are already predicted to be valuable. Here are a few of them:
- The Soul Stone
- Gwenom, Remorseless
- Norman Osborn // Green Goblin
- Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer
- Eddie Brock // Venom, Lethal Protector
This list focuses solely on cards from the original Spider-Man set, not the Eternal set. It also only includes the most sought-after standard versions of the cards, not every possible variation.
MTG’s Spider-Man Set Adds One of the Best Mana Rocks in The Game

The Soul Stone, a card from Magic: The Gathering, is a versatile mana source that fits well in most black-colored decks. It costs two mana to play-one of any color and one black-and creates an indestructible artifact that generates black mana each turn. Later in the game, for seven mana, it can repeatedly bring creatures back from the graveyard. Currently, The Soul Stone is selling for around $70 at the lowest prices, though many vendors on TCGPlayer are listing it for $80 or higher.
The most valuable card in the set is the borderless version of Thanos with the Soul Stone, selling for between $2,200 and nearly $3,500 before it’s even officially released. Interestingly, even at its lowest price, the black Traveling Chocobo from Final Fantasy is significantly more expensive, costing around $8,000.

MTG’s Gwenom is Basically a 2019 Card With a Body

The new Magic: The Gathering card, Gwenom, Remorseless, is generating a lot of excitement, especially as a commander option, and could also see play in other formats. It’s essentially a creature version of the card Bolas’s Citadel. For 5 mana, you get a 4/4 creature with deathtouch and lifelink – a strong base. But Gwenom’s key ability lets you look at the top card of your library whenever it attacks and play it by paying life equal to its mana cost, mirroring what Bolas’s Citadel does. Given its rarity and powerful stats and ability, Gwenom is currently selling for around $15.
Bolas’s Citadel can also be activated by tapping it and sacrificing ten non-land permanents, causing each opponent to lose 10 life. However, it costs 6 mana to cast, which is more than the 5 mana required for Gwenom, Remorseless.
Magic: The Gathering Unleashes The Green Goblin
The most exciting Green Goblin card in Magic: The Gathering right now is likely the new Norman Osborn // Green Goblin, and its flipped ‘Green Goblin’ side is the real star. This card costs 4 mana (including one of any type and three from the Grixis color combination) and is a 3/3 creature with flying and menace. It also reduces the cost of spells cast from your graveyard by 2 and adds a ‘mayhem’ effect to all non-land cards there. It’s a strong card for many game types, including both standard constructed decks and the Commander format. You can currently pre-order it for around $14.50 on TCGPlayer, and it’s a rare mythic card.
Spider-Man’s Ace Up The Sleeve Could Actually Be Anti-Venom

Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer could be a standout card in this set. It’s a strong 5/5 creature that costs five white mana and has two powerful abilities: it can be brought back from the graveyard, and it grows stronger every time damage is prevented on it. When combined with Dawnsire, this creates a potentially game-winning strategy in the Standard format. Dawnsire can repeatedly deal damage to Anti-Venom while it’s in play, adding +1/+1 counters and quickly turning it into a massive creature – theoretically, a 105/105. Its strength and potential are already reflected in its price of $14, making it a likely top contender.
Marvel’s Venom Has a Hauntingly Good Card in Magic: The Gathering
While a Venom video game from Marvel is still up in the air, fans can get their fix with a powerful new Venom card in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Called Eddie Brock // Venom, Lethal Protector, this card is double-sided, similar to the Green Goblin card. Just like Green Goblin, the Venom side is proving to be the more popular and effective, allowing players to quickly draw cards and bring powerful permanents into play by sacrificing creatures. Currently, it’s one of the most valuable cards in the set, with pre-sale prices around $10.
