Hideo Kojima’s Physint May Be Years Away, But This Early 2026 Game Could Help Fill the Void

Kojima Productions recently marked its 10th anniversary with a livestream event called Beyond the Strand. The event celebrated the success of the Death Stranding series and provided updates on what the studio is working on next. Besides continuing to support Death Stranding, Kojima Productions is developing a horror game called OD, and a spy thriller titled Physint.

While *OD* looks set to deliver a suspenseful experience, many longtime fans of Hideo Kojima are most excited about *Physint*. This new game represents a return to the style of gameplay Kojima is famous for, having created the influential *Metal Gear Solid* franchise – a series known for its espionage and dramatic spy stories. *Metal Gear Solid* has been a major force in gaming for the last three decades, and the idea of Kojima revisiting this genre is very appealing, even though *Physint* is still some time away. Fortunately, another intriguing spy game, *007 First Light*, is coming soon.

The Wait for Physint Will Hopefully Be Easier With 007 First Light on the Horizon

  • 007 First Light is set to launch on March 27, 2026.
  • Physint does not have a release date confirmed.

Hideo Kojima recently told French magazine *Le Film Francais* that his new game, *Physint*, is still several years away – likely five to six. This suggests *Physint* will probably be a game for the next PlayStation console, the PS6, which has fans even more eager for its release. At a recent event, Kojima Productions shared the first official poster and cast details for *Physint*. The artwork hints at a style combining elements of *Metal Gear Solid* and *Blade Runner*, showing a mysterious figure in a trench coat with a rifle. As with many of Kojima’s projects, the initial reveal is intriguing but leaves much to the imagination.

Physint‘s confirmed cast, so far, consists of Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe.

007 First Light Promises a Thrilling James Bond Prequel

IO Interactive, the studio behind the *Hitman* series, is launching *007 First Light*, a game featuring a younger, less seasoned James Bond. This fresh take on the iconic character could be a welcome change. Aside from sharing the spy thriller genre with games like *Physint*, *007 First Light* might appeal to *Metal Gear Solid* fans because Hideo Kojima has openly acknowledged James Bond as a major inspiration for his work – in fact, *Metal Gear Solid* wouldn’t have been possible without the Bond franchise.

The *James Bond* movies were a major inspiration for *Metal Gear Solid*, and while Hideo Kojima’s upcoming spy thriller, *Physint*, will have its own unique style, *007 First Light* could be a good way to pass the time. Since *Physint* is still several years away – potentially five or six – it won’t completely satisfy fans, but *First Light* should offer a fun, espionage-focused experience in the meantime.

Patrick Gibson, known for his roles in *The OA* and *Dexter: Original Sin*, is set to play James Bond in the new film, *007 First Light*.

More Physint News is Unlikely to Show Up Any Time Soon

Before Kojima Productions showed off the first poster and some of the actors for *Physint*, all we knew was the game’s title and what kind of game it would be. We’ve been waiting a long time for any news, so this might be all we hear about *Physint* for a while, particularly since it’s not expected to release until around 2030.

As a huge Kojima fan, all I can do right now is eagerly await more news about *Physint*. It’s tough being patient, but the release of *007 First Light* is a nice distraction! Plus, it’s fascinating to see a fresh take on the character who originally inspired Kojima to create his iconic spy thrillers.
