Jujutsu Kaisen Sequel Has Officially Set Up Tragic Main Character Deaths

This article contains spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen Manga and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

Jujutsu Kaisen is now a hugely popular and successful manga, and it continues to be well-loved even after the story finished, though some fans felt the ending was a bit hurried. Because it was so popular, a sequel called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was released just a year later. This new series is also written by the original author, but the artwork is done by Yuji Iwasaki. It’s already proving to be very successful, and fans are really enjoying it.

The idea behind Modulo is excellent, but the story carries a feeling of melancholy, particularly for those deeply connected to the original characters from Jujutsu Kaisen. The former protagonists, Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi, are either deceased or will die before Modulo concludes. This is understandable, as the narrative takes place 68 years following the major final conflict.

The Main Characters of JJK Are Already Dead Or Will Die in JJK Modulo

  • The Story is Set 68 Years After the Sukuna Battle
  • Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi Are All in Their 80s

Jujutsu Kaisen has been incredibly popular, and viewers have become very fond of the central characters, including Yuji, Nobara, Megumi, and especially Gojo. Gojo tragically died during the Shinjuku Showdown, falling in a difficult fight against Sukuna. However, Gojo won’t be the only main character to meet an unfortunate end.

Although Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi made it through the events of the original JJK series, Modulo presents a completely new challenge for them. The biggest hurdle they face is their age. JJK Modulo takes place 68 years after the conclusion of the Sukuna battle in Jujutsu Kaisen. Back then, Nobara and Megumi were 16 years old, and Yuji was 15. Consequently, all three characters are now in their 80s, meaning their time could be limited, or may have already passed.

Fans previously saw Maki succumb to old age, and Yuta soon followed, overwhelmed by sadness. However, age isn’t the only threat; even if characters are currently healthy, major conflicts are looming. Some characters are inevitably going to fall in battle, and the Modulo arc would be the perfect time for Gege to sacrifice older, established characters to make room for the development of newer ones.

Yuji Has The Highest Chances of Survival In The Bunch

Yuji Is No Normal Human

The main characters in Jujutsu Kaisen don’t all have the same abilities. While Nobara and Megumi are mostly ordinary humans, Yuji is unique. Yuji was born due to Kenjaku’s actions, and he is the host for Sukuna, the King of Curses. This means his body isn’t typical, and he may not age at the same rate as other people. If one character had a strong chance of surviving, it would likely be Yuji.

Although the Jujutsu Kaisen manga finished in late 2024, you can still read it online without paying. It’s available on Manga Plus, which was where new chapters were originally published each week. And for those excited about the continuation, Manga Plus is also releasing the new Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo series weekly. The fifth chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is scheduled to come out on October 5, 2025.
