How to Get Jin Sakai’s Ghost Mask & Storm Blade in Ghost of Yotei

You can enjoy Ghost of Yotei even if you haven’t played Ghost of Tsushima, but many players will likely have experienced the original game first. As a tribute to Jin Sakai, the hero of the first game, the developers at Sucker Punch included a quest where you can obtain Jin’s Storm Blade, Demon Mask, and Stag Helmet. This guide will explain how to begin the Jin Sakai mission in Ghost of Yotei, and how to acquire the Storm Blade, Demon Mask, and Stag Helmet for your own character.

How to Start Jin Sakai Quest in Ghost of Yotei

Let’s begin this story by going to the Oshima Coast. You’ll want to head to the southwestern part of the region to find a Forgotten Shrine. If you’re having trouble locating it, it’s south of Orito Forest and not far from the water. I’ve added a map screenshot above showing exactly where it is.

After locating the Forgotten Shrine, talk to Ugetsu, the Storyteller, who is kneeling near the torii gate. This will officially begin the story, and you can continue by following the path behind him. This path will ultimately guide you to the Storm Blade and Jin Sakai’s ghost mask.

Start by walking up the path from the storyteller and clear a path through the bamboo to discover an old fox shrine. Show your respect at the shrine, and a fox will appear after a short scene. Follow the fox until it goes into a hole, then you’ll need to cross the waterfall. You can do this by carefully navigating the cliffside and using the wooden structures you can grapple onto. Grapple points are key here!

Okay, so next up, we need to keep climbing! Basically, we’re heading upwards to get over that fallen tree at the top – that’s how we finally get out of this valley that’s filled with water. It looks tricky, but I think we can do it! Let’s go to the next area and tackle it. This is going to be awesome!

As you climb higher, you’ll come across a shrine containing a small flame and a recognizable symbol underneath. When you bow before it, red leaves will be carried across the screen by the wind. It’s a cool nod to Ghost of Tsushima.

Keep following the path until you find the fox again in a clearing with a tree that has red leaves and a chest beneath it. Open the chest to discover Jin’s haiku and examine it. Once you’ve read it, the wind will show you a secret opening in the wall – you can slip through it. Continue to follow the fox, using the handholds on the cliff and tree branches to cross to the other side. You will then arrive at the ‘Lost Shinobi Den.’

Here, you’ll discover items like Silk Fibers on the ground, Jin’s former saddle, steel, and Jin’s Stag Helmet. These are the first of three equipment pieces belonging to Jin Sakai that we can obtain in Ghost of Yotei.

After thoroughly searching the area, use the rock located to the right of the entrance to jump onto the roof. Then, jump from the roof to the small ledge on the opposite side to find handholds and climb up the cliff. Lower yourself down the other side using a rope, and then traverse the cliff to discover wooden planks you can jump across to reach the top of the waterfall.

Go inside and let the wind guide you to a crawlspace. Once through, you’ll see the Storm Blade on the wall ahead. However, Nine Tails will show up and snatch it away. Take down the two enemies that attack you, then pursue Nine Tails-heading back the way you came, towards Jin’s house-to get the Storm Blade back.

This section features a chase with some simple platforming. Don’t worry about a timer – just continue moving forward until you reach a large field filled with white plants and a house. This is Jin Sakai’s former home, so head inside and examine the objects to learn more about who used to live there. Once you’re done inside, go back outside and look for new footprints. Follow these footprints through the nearby gate to find the Nine Tail Sword Thief and begin the fight.

If you’re having trouble with the sword thief, feel free to adjust the difficulty. Since there isn’t a trophy tied to a specific difficulty level, it’s a perfectly valid option to help you overcome tougher parts of the game.

Once you defeat the sword thief, you’ll obtain the Storm Blade and unlock the ‘Dance of Wrath’ ability. You can activate this ability by pressing L1 and R1. After dealing with the last of your opponents, a cutscene focusing on Jin will play.

Okay, so after that awesome cutscene finishes, I found out you can actually grab Jin’s Ghost Mask! It’s lying right at the base of the monument, underneath the tree. I almost missed it, but it’s definitely there for the taking!
