A new game called *Wukong: Legacy Reborn* is drawing comparisons to the popular Chinese RPG, *Black Myth: Wukong*. The titles are similar, and many aspects of the new game closely resemble Game Science’s critically acclaimed 2024 release, *Black Myth: Wukong*, which quickly gained a large player base after its launch.
It’s common for popular games to inspire copies, and unfortunately, some developers try to profit by directly copying successful titles to mislead players. We’ve recently seen this happen with a wave of games imitating *Schedule 1* on the PlayStation Store, leaving many gamers frustrated.
Wukong: Legacy Reborn Mistaken for Black Myth: Wukong DLC
When a game called *Wukong: Legacy Reborn* appeared on the PlayStation Store, some players thought it might be downloadable content for the popular game *Black Myth: Wukong*. However, it’s a separate game made by a small independent developer, Md Adnan Hossain, and isn’t connected to the creators of *Black Myth: Wukong*. While *Wukong: Legacy Reborn* isn’t scheduled to release until 2027, the screenshots available suggest it’s heavily inspired by *Black Myth: Wukong*.
The new action RPG, *Legacy Reborn*, is built on Unreal Engine 5 and combines elements of Eastern mythology with quick, exciting combat. It aims to deliver a fresh gaming experience. The game’s hero is Wukong, a figure from Chinese legend who also starred in the 2024 RPG from Game Science. While mythological characters aren’t copyrightable, many players have noticed a strong resemblance between *Legacy Reborn*’s visuals and those of *Black Myth: Wukong*, leading some to wonder if the designs are too similar.
Md Adnan Hossain, the publisher, has released several similar games that are considered low quality, copying popular titles such as TCG Card Shop Simulator and Bodycam. This has led people to believe his new game, which resembles Wukong, could be a scam. Critics are also saying Sony isn’t doing enough to prevent these types of games from being listed on the PlayStation Store.
It’s unclear if the PlayStation Store will start cracking down on poor-quality or AI-made games that are just copies of popular titles. While some players want a way to report these potentially fraudulent or misleading games, it doesn’t seem like that feature will be added soon. As a result, games like *Wukong: Legacy Reborn* – which can easily trick customers – are still available on the store.
