Borderlands 4’s First DLC Already Has the Perfect Setting

Now that Borderlands 4 has been out for almost a month, many players have finished the main story, reached level 50, and started playing the challenging Ultimate Vault Hunter mode – or even gone beyond that! This means players are already looking ahead to the future of the game, and the first big DLC, *Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned*, is scheduled for release in early 2026. While it’s still a ways off and details are limited, a perfect theme for the DLC is already becoming apparent.

The first downloadable content (DLC) for *Borderlands 4* will introduce a new Vault Hunter named C4SH and bring back the popular character Ellie. However, the location for this DLC has been a mystery. Gearbox has only hinted at the setting on the planet Kairos, revealing that it will feature a new region without specifying where on the map. Recently, observant players discovered a complete map of Kairos hidden within the Carcadia Burn area of *Borderlands 4*, sparking theories about the DLC’s potential location.

The in-game map for *Borderlands 4* currently only shows areas players can reach on the planet Kairos, but it reveals a much larger landscape. There’s land visible in the northwest, northeast, and southeast corners that isn’t currently used, hinting that these areas could be added in future downloadable content. This doesn’t guarantee the upcoming ‘Mad Ellie’ DLC will take place in those locations, but combined with previous statements from Gearbox, it’s a strong possibility.

The Setting for Borderlands 4’s Mad Ellie DLC Might Already Be Etched Into the Map

So far, Gearbox has only revealed that the Mad Ellie DLC will be set in a snowy environment. They mentioned this during a PAX West presentation for *Borderlands 4*, and concept art showing Ellie wearing warm clothes confirms it. Given the existing landscapes in Kairos, we can start to guess the specific location of the DLC.

The next Borderlands game, possibly titled Borderlands 4, might feature one large, connected open world with many different environments. Players will be able to explore areas like the green Fadefields, the hot Arcadia Burn desert, the freezing Terminus Range, and the futuristic city of Dominion. Considering the recent ‘Mad Ellie’ downloadable content took place in a snowy area, and a map hinting at a location called Kairos was found in Arcadia Burn, it’s likely the next expansion will be set in the cold, mountainous region of Terminus Range.

The Northeastern Section of the Borderlands 4 Map Appears Unused

Speculation continues about future content for *Borderlands 4*. The game’s map includes an unused section in the far northeast of Kairos, where players can even place custom map markers despite not being able to access the area. There’s also an unpopulated southeastern corner that might be used for future downloadable content, although it doesn’t yet show any terrain details. Based on this, it appears the upcoming Mad Ellie DLC will likely expand upon the Terminus Range area.

The only potential issue is that the new character in *Borderlands 4*, C4SH, seems to have a Wild West theme, hinting at a desert setting instead of a snowy one. It’s possible C4SH is originally from a northwestern area connected to Arcadia Burn, but we might not be able to explore that area until a later DLC after the release of Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. Alternatively, the area northwest of Arcadia Burn could actually *be* snowy, which would match a map that was discovered – it shows a white area in that direction and a green area near Terminus Range. For now, though, it looks like the first DLC for *Borderlands 4* will focus on the northeastern part of the world.
