Xbox Design Lab Adds New Controllers Based on The Outer Worlds 2

Just ahead of the release of *The Outer Worlds 2*, Microsoft is offering special edition controllers through the Xbox Design Lab. Fans can personalize either the Standard or Elite Xbox Wireless Controller with unique artwork from the game.

The next role-playing game from Obsidian, a sequel to 2019’s *The Outer Worlds*, expands on the original’s ideas. The game will continue to explore themes of powerful corporations and meaningful player choices, but this time the story unfolds in a space colony named Arcadia. Players will also meet new companions to join them on their journey. Like the first game, *The Outer Worlds 2* is built using the Unreal Engine – this time, version 5. However, since Unreal Engine 5 has faced some criticism, it’s still uncertain how well the game will run.

New Xbox Design Lab Controllers Put The Outer Worlds 2 in the Spotlight

Okay, so I just heard that in about three weeks, when *The Outer Worlds 2* finally drops, you can snag some awesome customized Xbox controllers! Xbox Design Lab already has options open for us fans to build our own. The standard controllers start at $94.98, and if you want to go all-out with the Elite version, those start at $184.98 – prices don’t include tax, of course. The good news is these controllers work with both Xbox consoles and PCs. The *Outer Worlds 2* versions have this cool design featuring The Moon Man on the top, and the Elite controller even gets Moon Man on the side caps! You can still customize everything else – buttons, thumbsticks, bumpers, triggers, the D-Pad – to exactly how you like it. I’m definitely going to be building one of these!

Okay, so I’m looking at customizing a controller, and the ‘Moon Man’ color option adds about $15 to the base price, which starts at $80. If you want those cool metallic gray triggers, that’s another $4. Honestly, the price of the *Outer Worlds 2* themed controller is pretty similar to what other companies like 8BitDo are charging for their custom designs – you might remember they did a cool one with Microsoft for Rare’s 40th anniversary.

You can customize the Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller with extra paddles and D-pad options, but adding those features can bring the total cost above $200. The special edition Xbox controllers for *The Outer Worlds 2* are starting to ship now, but how quickly you receive yours will depend on delivery times.
