Valve is nearing the release of its new SteamVR headset. A recent report from a Chinese analyst firm suggests the headset is now being manufactured in large quantities.
According to the XR Research Institute, as first reported by UploadVR, a production run of 400,000 to 600,000 units is underway for a new headset currently known as “Deckard.” Many expect this headset, potentially named the Valve Frame, to be revealed and available for purchase before 2025 ends.
Valve insider Brad Lynch recently discovered the Deckard DV1 and DV2 models within the SteamVR Beta, which adds credibility to the reports. He explained that these “DV units” represent the final testing phase before the consumer version (PV) is released.
We don’t have information about the price or technical specifications yet. It’s anticipated that the headset will be released at the same time as the new “Roy” controllers, which are being created specifically for it.
Valve is working on more than just the SteamVR headset. Over the summer, details emerged about a potential new gaming console from Valve, codenamed ‘Fremont.’ A listing on the Geekbench website hinted at the console’s specifications: a 3.2 GHz six-core processor, 8GB of DDR5 memory, and a custom AMD RX 7600 graphics card. It’s important to remember these specifications could change before the console is officially released.
