This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
Imu Nerona is an incredibly powerful character in One Piece, and recently, the author Oda has shown us more of what they can do. Their arrival in Elbaf demonstrated immense strength, but that was just a hint of their full capabilities. The flashback involving Loki revealed even more about Imu’s powers, suggesting they are virtually unbeatable. While Imu appears overwhelmingly strong, Oda has subtly hinted at two key weaknesses that could be exploited.
Surprisingly, the creator, Oda, has already revealed the steps needed to defeat Imu, and the clues are available for readers to see. Eventually, someone will exploit Imu’s two main weaknesses to bring them down. These weaknesses were highlighted in the Loki flashback by Rocks D. Xebec, who claimed that defeating the World Government—and therefore Imu—requires two particular Devil Fruits. This means that possessing these two specific fruits is key to overcoming Imu and dismantling their power.
Rocks Wanted Two Specific Devil Fruits to Beat Imu
The Nika Fruit Hard Counters Imu’s Powers
- The Yami Yami no Mi is needed to fight Imu
- The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika can counter Imu
From the start, Rocks intended to fulfill the pledge made by his ancestor, Davy D. Jones. As a member of the Davy Clan, Rocks was determined to honor the promise Jones had made to Imu.
I’ve got my eye on two specific Devil Fruits, and I want Harald to eat one of them. — Rocks, speaking to his pirate crew.
The exact nature of the promise remains a mystery, but fans understand that both Davy Jones and Rocks D. Xebec aimed to overthrow the World Government, specifically targeting Imu. Rocks openly declared his ambition was to conquer “The World,” meaning he intended to dismantle Imu’s regime, fulfilling the promise made by Davy D. Jones.
When Rocks encountered Imu in Marijoa, he didn’t attack. This was because he recognized he stood no chance against Imu and retreated, promising to return when he was stronger. Rocks later revealed his plan to overthrow the Government required him to have two powerful Devil Fruits. Essentially, Rocks needed these fruits to defeat Imu. He intended for Harald to consume one of them, and likely planned to eat the other himself.
In his own way, Harald was trying to be Nika himself. — Jarul, Elbaf
It’s clear that Imu has two main weaknesses, and these are the Devil Fruits the Rocks pirates specifically sought to exploit. The first is almost certainly the Nika fruit. Evidence suggests the Rocks intended Harald to consume it, as the legend of the Sun God Nika originates from Elbaf, and Jarul stated Harald aimed to embody Nika’s ideals. The Nika fruit’s power could directly oppose Imu’s Domi Reversi ability, and all powers derived from evil, because it represents the opposite of everything Imu stands for.
The second power would be the Yami Yami no Mi, considered the most powerful Logia-type Devil Fruit. What makes this fruit unique is its ability to absorb the very energy of Devil Fruits themselves. This means even someone as strong as Imu would be unable to overcome its abilities.
Haki On The Level Of Joy Boy Is Needed
Imu Can Only Be Countered With The Strongest Haki
Okay, so it’s becoming super clear that fighting Imu isn’t just about physical strength – you need incredibly powerful Haki! We saw Rocks D. Xebec try, and even his Haki wasn’t enough to even scratch Imu. But then, in Egghead, something amazing happened! Joy Boy’s Haki actually affected the Five Elders, and they get their power from Imu! That tells me that to truly stand a chance against Imu, you absolutely need Haki of the very highest level – it’s not just powerful, it has to be that powerful.
The newest chapter of One Piece is coming out this week, as it typically does on Sundays. While it will be released in Japan at midnight on Monday, most international fans will be able to read it on November 2nd. The chapter will be available for free on Manga Plus.
