Classic horror game series are becoming popular again, largely due to recent, well-made remakes. Examples include EA’s 2023 version of Dead Space and Capcom’s 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2.
The Silent Hill series is a prime example of a classic horror franchise that experienced a remarkable comeback, thanks to both updated remakes and highly praised new games.
As a long-time fan, it was really tough seeing Silent Hill: Downpour not do so well and then Silent Hills get cancelled. It felt like the series was over! So, I was absolutely thrilled when, after ten years of silence, we finally got Silent Hill: The Short Message and a remake of Silent Hill 2 – and it’s awesome that they’re both PlayStation 5 exclusives. It’s great to have Silent Hill back!
The Silent Hill 2 remake was a big success with both critics and players, and Bloober Team is now making a remake of the original Silent Hill. Before that game comes out, though, Xbox players might get to experience James Sunderland’s terrifying story soon, as the 2024 remake has received a rating from the ESRB.
Silent Hill 2’s Inevitable Journey to Xbox
The first Silent Hill game came out in 1999 as something only PlayStation owners could play. However, most of the core games in the series have since been released on other systems. For example, the original Silent Hill 2, after launching on PlayStation 2, also became available on the original Xbox just a few months later in 2001.
The 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake wasn’t released on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at the same time because Konami made an agreement with Sony. This deal meant the game would be available on PS5 for a year before coming to other platforms.
It’s been one year since the announcement of the Silent Hill 2 remake, and it looks like it’s coming to Xbox consoles soon. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) recently gave the game a Mature 17+ rating for Xbox Series platforms.

Fans hoping to play the highly anticipated remake of Silent Hill 2 on Xbox this Halloween will likely have to wait longer. Current estimates suggest the game won’t arrive until late 2025 or early 2026.
The Silent Hill 2 remake hasn’t received an age rating from the ESRB for either Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, suggesting a release on those consoles might be a long way off – or may not happen at all.
The remake of Silent Hill 2 might come to Xbox on December 18th, which would be the 22nd anniversary of the original game’s release on the first Xbox in 2001.
While the game Silent Hill 2 was previously only available on PlayStation 5, the new game Silent Hill f was released on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles at the same time on September 25th.
