‘I Have Ways to Do That’ Cyberpunk Creator Wants Keanu Reeves to Return for 2077 Sequel

This article contains spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the original Cyberpunk tabletop role-playing game that inspired CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, has publicly asked Keanu Reeves to get in touch. Reeves, who famously played Johnny Silverhand in the 2020 game, has said he’s eager to reprise the role in the upcoming Cyberpunk 2 sequel, despite his character’s death in most of the game’s endings.

Cyberpunk 2077 offers multiple different endings, determined by the choices players make during the game. While the developers haven’t officially stated which ending is the ‘correct’ one, many fans believe the ending introduced in the 2023 expansion, Phantom Liberty, is the most definitive. This ending involves successfully removing the relic from V’s head, which permanently destroys Johnny Silverhand.

Cyberpunk Creator Tells Keanu Reeves to Call Him About 2077 Sequel

Keanu Reeves has expressed his enthusiasm about returning as Johnny Silverhand in a potential Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. While no story details for a follow-up game have been announced, the creator of the original Cyberpunk tabletop game, Mike Pondsmith, jokingly suggested Reeves get in touch with him, hinting at ways to bring the character back. Both Reeves and Pondsmith seem open to the idea of Silverhand returning, which is exciting for fans.

CD Projekt Red is working on several projects, including the next installment in The Witcher series and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. While often referred to as Cyberpunk 2 (likely just a temporary name), details about the game are scarce. The studio confirmed in May that development had begun, and in July, they shared that 116 developers are currently working on the Cyberpunk sequel, while 444 are focused on the new Witcher game.

CD Projekt Red is currently focusing all its efforts on The Witcher 4, so don’t expect to hear much about the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel anytime soon. However, recent job postings hint that Cyberpunk 2 will include some kind of online multiplayer feature. The developers had originally planned to add multiplayer to Cyberpunk 2077, but those plans were cancelled after the game’s difficult launch.
