One Piece: Oda Officially Reveals A Straw Hat That Could Become A Celestial Dragon

The manga series One Piece is now focusing on the Elbaf arc, which promises to be a significant part of the story. The arc has been excellent so far, and the release of Volume 113 has begun to reveal answers to many long-awaited questions about Elbaf and the Straw Hat Pirates.

Fans were surprised to learn from creator Eiichiro Oda that a former member of the Straw Hat Pirates would become a Celestial Dragon under certain unfortunate circumstances. Oda frequently sketches the Straw Hat crew as they might look in the future, both in positive and negative scenarios. Most recently, in One Piece Volume 113, he revealed both potential outcomes for Nefertari Vivi. He confirmed that in the darker timeline, Vivi would end up joining the Celestial Dragons, a development that makes sense considering her family, the Nefertari, were among the original twenty kingdoms that founded the World Government.

Volume 113 of One Piece gave fans a lot of new details about Elbaf and the important characters connected to it. Notably, Vivi is currently a key figure in the story, and it’s clear she’ll have a significant role to play as One Piece moves towards its conclusion.

It’s not really surprising that fans are asking about Vivi lately. Oda has already shown us possible futures for all the Straw Hat Pirates – both good and bad – and since Vivi carries the crew’s mark and is essentially an honorary member, it makes sense he’d do the same for her. He’s now shared drawings of what she might look like at 40 and 60 years old, just like he did with the rest of the crew.

Although many fans expected a positive future for Vivi, the potential dark path revealed was a shock. In this scenario, Vivi would turn to piracy at age 40, leading her own crew and continuing a life of crime. Even more surprisingly, by 60, she would become a Celestial Dragon, effectively handing over Arabasta and all its secrets to the World Government. This would also place Vivi under the control of Imu.

I’ve noticed a lot of fans treat the situation with Vivi as a joke, assuming she’ll avoid any truly negative outcome. But it’s important to remember that powerful forces – specifically Imu and the World Government – are actively looking for her. She’s currently laying low, but I get the feeling she’ll have to reunite with the Straw Hats eventually.

If Imu captures Vivi, there’s a real chance Vivi could be forced to become a Celestial Dragon, similar to what happened with Gunko. Gunko was clearly removed from her home and made into a Holy Knight against her will.

One Piece Chapter 1165 is scheduled for release this week, as usual on Sundays. While it becomes available in Japan at midnight on Monday, most international fans will be able to read it on November 9, 2025.
