Pokémon Legends: Z-A has surprisingly few Ice-type Pokémon, and Vanillite is one of the rare ones. While the game’s Wild Zones are full of other Pokémon to find, Vanillite is arguably the most valuable.
Vanillite and its evolved forms have a surprisingly good set of moves, making them more useful in competitive battles than before. If you’re interested in competitive Pokémon, it’s a good idea to try and get one quickly.
Here’s a guide to finding and evolving Vanillite in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
How to Catch Vanillite in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
You can find Vanillite in several spots around Lumiose City. It appears relatively early in the game, around level 18, in Wild Zone 7 – the zone along the river on the west side of the city.
Okay, so I’ve been exploring and found Kakuna and Shuppet hanging around here. If you’re looking for Vanillite, you’ll need to head to Wild Zone 12, but heads up – that area doesn’t unlock until you’re around level 34, so you’ll have to progress a bit further in the game first.
You can find Wild Zone 12 in the southern part of the city. It might be best to wait until later in the game to catch the Pokémon here, because Vanillite evolves into Vanillish at level 35.
If you find a Vanillite in Wild Zone 12, you’ll likely be able to evolve it very quickly. However, reaching that point also means facing a powerful Alpha Abomasnow.
Here’s what you should know before trying to catch a Vanillite: it’s a pretty shy Pokémon. It won’t immediately run away completely, but if you take too long to approach, it will eventually flee.
You’ll need to find and battle Vanillite in the Wild Zone. I suggest using a Fire-type Pokémon to defeat it quickly, so you can catch it before it escapes.
Vanillite is generally easy to catch. If it tries to escape, just follow it. I’ve caught several without even lowering its health, using only Ultra Balls.
How to Evolve Vanillite Into Vanillish and Vanilluxe
Vanillite evolves pretty easily – just raise its level! It first becomes Vanillish at level 35, and you’ll see an evolution icon appear next to its name in the game menu when it happens.
Choose Vanillite from your Pokémon list, then select ‘Evolve’ to turn it into Vanillish. Repeat this process with Vanillish to evolve it further into Vanilluxe.
Okay, so Vanillish evolves into Vanilluxe at level 47, which is pretty late in the game. If I’m trying to get a Vanilluxe, I usually use XP Candy or Rare Candy to speed things up. It’s super helpful to have one ready to go for those tougher battles later on.
