According to reports, Ubisoft is aiming to release the revamped version of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in January 2026. This timing fits with Ubisoft’s earlier announcements and could give them a significant game to release when fewer other major titles are coming out.
The remake of the popular 2003 game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was first announced in 2020, with development initially split between Ubisoft’s studios in Mumbai and Pune. However, after fans reacted negatively to the first look at the remake, Ubisoft moved the project to Montreal – the team that originally created the game. In May 2025, Ubisoft stated the game is still expected to launch before the end of March 2026.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Launch Window Narrowed Down in New Report
According to a new report from Insider Gaming, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is currently scheduled to release in January 2026. Sources familiar with the project indicate Ubisoft is aiming for a mid-month launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, as they’ve stated before. This timing supports previous comments from Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet, who mentioned in July 2025 that the remake was coming soon.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Possibly Getting a Release Date at TGA 2025
So, I’m hearing from reliable sources over at Insider Gaming that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake is probably going to make a big appearance at The Game Awards in December 2025. It makes total sense – TGA is huge, and it’d be the perfect place for Ubisoft to finally announce a release date. Knowing how The Game Awards usually does things, I’m betting we’ll get a new trailer along with that announcement, too!
The remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was originally planned to launch in January 2021. However, after development moved from India to Canada – a location with higher developer costs – the project’s budget likely increased significantly. It’s unknown if this change in development location also impacted the game’s features or content.
This remake will be Ubisoft Montreal’s first release for consoles since Roller Champions in 2022. Since then, the studio has focused on Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR for Meta Quest (released in 2023) and Rainbow Six Mobile, which is still in development for Android and iOS. The Montreal team is also currently working on a new major Assassin’s Creed game, internally known as Project Hexe.
