Like many recent PlayStation games, Stellar Blade was initially released on PS5 before becoming available on PC. However, it’s proven to be significantly more popular on PC than any other PlayStation single-player game that’s made the jump to PC so far.
Shift Up, the studio behind Stellar Blade, recently revealed the game is the best-selling new PlayStation exclusive game ever. Thanks to a graphic shared by Genki, we now know Stellar Blade has achieved this milestone. While the exact number of copies sold in the past five months – since its release on PC – isn’t available, the graphic shows Stellar Blade reached 192,000 concurrent players at its peak on Steam, surpassing the highest player counts of other PlayStation games released on the platform.
Stellar Blade’s PC Numbers Blow Every Other Single-Player PlayStation Exclusive Out Of The Water
Stellar Blade has become the most popular single-player PlayStation game to launch on PC. At its peak, nearly 192,000 players were playing simultaneously, which is far more than any other PlayStation PC port to date. For comparison, Ghost of Tsushima reached around 77,000 players at launch, and God of War peaked at 73,000. Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, and The Last of Us complete the list of the six most popular PlayStation games on PC.
Helldivers 2 is much more popular than its predecessor, reaching higher player counts due to its multiplayer focus, so a separate single-player qualification is necessary.
It’s somewhat bold of Shift Up to emphasize Stellar Blade’s success like this. To show how well the PC version is doing, they’re also indirectly pointing out the lower performance of the PlayStation ports. While ‘poor’ might be too strong a word, single-player games naturally have lower and shorter-lived concurrent player counts than live-service games like Arc Raiders – players finish them and typically don’t keep playing indefinitely.
Even though Stellar Blade was initially released only on PlayStation, Shift Up isn’t owned by Sony, and that may explain why they’re openly sharing sales figures. Plus, while the first game did well, it’s increasingly probable that the next Stellar Blade won’t be a PlayStation exclusive when it comes out.
The sequel to Stellar Blade might be released sooner than 2027, and it looks like it will be available on multiple platforms right away. Given the success of the first game on PC, the developers at Shift Up likely want to release the sequel on PC at the same time as other platforms, avoiding another period of exclusivity.
