As a big fan of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, I was really happy to see the 1.0.3 patch drop! It fixes a frustrating bug that popped up with Season 2. Basically, some of us weren’t getting the Mega Stone we earned from ranked battles. When the game launched, ranked battles started right away with Season 1, and we could unlock Mega Greninja by getting to Rank K – it took a bit of effort, but it was awesome. But when Season 2 came out on November 5th, things got messed up, and the rewards weren’t being given out correctly. Glad they fixed it!
In Season 2 of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the rewards for ranked play were updated to include Greninjite at Rank Y and Delphoxite at Rank S, making these Mega Stones easier to obtain. Unfortunately, a bug was accidentally released that prevented some players from receiving either Stone. While Greninjite was available to players from Season 1, it was also affected by the bug for those still trying to unlock it in Season 2. The issue didn’t impact everyone, but a new patch released today resolves it for affected players.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Greninja, Delphox, and Chesnaught Are Finally Available for All
In Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s third season, players can now unlock the Chesnaughtite Mega Stone. Greninjite and Delphoxite, which were previously available early due to a bug, are available again. The cause of the bug in the second season and how many players it impacted remain unknown. Here’s what the latest update details:
- “In ranked battles, even if you reach the rank required to receive Mega Stones as rewards, you may not be able to receive them. (This occurred in Season 2.),” meaning that some players didn’t get Greninjite, Delphoxite, or both upon reaching Rank Y and Rank S, respectively. Since these rewards are exclusively obtainable via ranked battles, not getting them meant soft-locking both Mega Greninja and Mega Delphox for those affected.
Update 1.0.3 for the game is now available to download on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The download is quick, usually taking under a minute. Players who experienced the Mega Stone bug can now receive the Greninjite and/or Delphoxite in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Here’s how to get them:
- Boot your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2. If it’s already on, press the home button and navigate to Pokemon Legends: Z-A to initiate the download of patch 1.0.3. The game can be open, and the process will start anyway. However, the game must be restarted for Ver. 1.0.3 to be installed.
- Launch Pokemon Legends: Z-A when the update is fully loaded and installed.
- From inside the game, press X to open the menu. From there, navigate to Link Play.
- Click on Ranked Battles. This will connect you to the internet, and a pop-up screen will appear, showing the missing Mega Stones as rewards.
If you weren’t able to earn Mega Stones through ranked battles, the rewards for Season 3 are now being distributed. Here’s what’s included:
- Chesnaughtite – Rank S
- Delphoxite – Rank V
- Greninjite – Rank Y
Season 2 rewards are now available for PLZA players! If you reached Rank K or higher, you’ll receive Dream Ball(s), which will be given to you when you visit the Ranked Battles section after the season ends.
The trick for finding shiny Alpha Pokémon in Wild Zone 20 still works even after the latest update (Version 1.0.3), so players can update without losing this method. Other ways to find shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A also haven’t been fixed in the update.
Starting with Season 3, players can now use Zygarde and Diancie in ranked battles in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Season 3 lasts until December 17th at 8:59 PM Eastern Time, giving players plenty of time to collect any Mega Stones they’re missing, including the new Chesnaughtite.
If you’re looking for a competitive edge in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s ranked battles, Pikachu is currently very powerful and can often defeat most Pokemon that aren’t Ground-type in a single hit. To effectively counter Zygarde, use Ice-type attacks or Pokemon. For Fairy-type Pokemon, Steel-type attacks or Pokemon are a strong choice.
The Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A comes out on December 10th. A new trailer will be released on December 2nd, and while we don’t know exactly what it will show, it will likely feature more of the new Mega Evolutions that have been rumored, such as Absol Y and Lucario Y.
